In that piece on the telecast about Bud's sponsorship they showed a photo of KB's funny car next to a streamliner TF car. Who drove that car and when did it race?

Darrell Gwynn, 1987 Winternationals.

They only ran it like that one time, and by Gainesville it had no canopy, and a single front wing across the front.

If I remember, it was Darrel Gwynn. It was sometime in the late eighties i think. He made a few runs on it and but it was to heavy. Thats what it said in his book at least.

I asked Jerry Gwynn about that car, he said it was WAYY overweight like 300 lbs! It was an easy decision to change!

If you have the race DVR'd, go back to that picture and pause it. You can see Darrell standing right next to the roll cage.

That was our 1987 car that Mike Kase built for us and we took the canopy off and the streamliner part and went back to the conventional dragster look, later that year we went to the motorplex and set and reset the national record and won the race. The 1988 car was the one sent England that Darrell crashed in and that was sent back to our shop and rebuilt and Garlits had it for awhile in his museum.

I'm pretty sure the 87 car was sold to Mike Brotherton, so the 88 car must have went over there. If I could find a picture I could tell you for sure.

Right done some research and borrowed some pictures from the brilliant www.ukdrn.co.uk site.

It was 1989 that Darrell Gwynn bought the car over to race and took part in Europes first side-by-side 5 second run.

Gwynn ran a 5.78 to Liv Berstads 5.84.

Here is a pic of the run:

Another close up of Gwynn in the car, note Budwieser has replaced Bud:

Later in 1989, Al Segrini came over to tune Knut Soderqvists funny cars and take the seat of Gywnns old rail:

One of Knuts FC's Segrini tuned:

I hope that helps Paul.

That's the 87 car you are right.

Brotherton must of had a clone to the 87 car then.

The 88 car was a skinny needle nose front end.

I believe the car must be still about somewhere, i am almost certain that FIA Champion Andy Carters first TF car was this chassis. What do you think:

If not, i wonder where it is now.

Do you have any pics of the Brotherton car or Gwynns skinny car you mentioned?

Michael bought an engine from the Gwynns and ran that combination in 87 in a Gene Gaddy built car that he formerly raced in Top Alcohol, then ran a car built by crew chief Larry Rogers that also used Larry's engine combo, and that car put Michael into the exclusive Cragar 4 second club, and that car was the first to run 294.88 mph, which fellow Okie Gary Orsmby later duplicated.

I thought Porky Gastellum bought Brotherton's car for the 1990 season, after Brotherton teamed up with JB Racing.

Michael raced the Larry Rogers-built car in 1988 and 1989, then sold it to Leo "Porky" Gastellum before the 1990 season. Michael said Porky drove to Oklahoma in a flat-bed truck, paid cash for the car and parts, then drove it back to California. The car was later featured in a Federal Marshal asset-seizure advertisement in National Dragster.
