i'm watching vintage us 30 dvd vidio. the 2 person tag team announcers gave so much intensity to the live drag racing experience. we need to return to the days of the live broadcasters giving a sense of urgency!! his broadcasts puts me to sleep!!

Sorry, but I completely disagree that Bob Frey must go. Bob does a fantastic job and I am sure there are many people who agree with me.

Everyone has a different style, but Bob is one of the best, and you won't find anyone with more knowledge of the sport. Also, I've met him a couple times, and he's really a cool guy.

Insane! Bob has the dry witted humor that makes you laugh and think!!

Besides, the guy pays his bets. 1999 NCAA BBall Title he gave me the field vs. Duke. Thanks to UConn at ate at Indy for free in Sept.

bob used to go into stands during downtime (oildowns) and ask fans
really simple questions (simple to us) - hilarious stuff.
can't remember entire scenario, but he's in the stands and some guy
is smokin' marlboro's.....anyways, can't remember the dialogue, but in
defense of 'winston' somehow bob gets the guy's smokes and starts
stomping on them in the bleachers (think he traded for a cap or something)
the guy was pissed, the whole place was in stitches;
think it may have been up on winston vision too!!

oh, i like bob........always have.
not saying your guy isn't captivating either.

Howdy,

Owning the US 30 dvds', and having had the fortune to be at many races at that wonderful old strip, the gents that did the play-by-play (which is alot easier to do when the cars are running 7 seconds as compared to 4-something), they did drum up alot of excitement. For the time it was great, a little sensationalized at times, but fun. In the nineties, the Diamond P broadcasts with the late, great Steve Evans, Big Mac and Bob Frey, I couldn't stand Bob Frey. I would cringe when he did his bits. But he really has come into his own over the past 10 years or so. He seems alot more relaxed at the mike and is genuinely funny. I look forward to his commentary and driver intros when I attend the races.

Paul Page, who seems like a nice enough guy, just spouts statistics his producer feeds him. Very little insight when it comes to making his own observations, which are often incorrect.

I actually prefer on the tv, to just hear the cars run for the 4 seconds, without commentary, unless something occurs of course. You don't have to fill up every second of the broadscast with talking.:D

Just my 2 pence

I sincerly hope this was meant as a joke.

I think I know which US 30 videos he is talking about. Ben Crist and Billy something (I forget his last name) are doing the announcing. They're good but sadly that type of announcing just wouldn't cut it in today's corporate sponsored Drag Racing world.

The days of screaming, sensational track announcers is over...just like the days of screaming Top 40 DJ's on the Radio. I much prefer actual content than manufactured hype. I've worked with screamers and that schtick just doesn't ring true with fans and racers. I much prefer a fun and educational delivery as opposed to somebody spitting into the Mic all day long. On a related note...track tower employees (race control) can't stand working in the tower with a screamer all day. I've seen several quit because of all the noise.

Now...as Bob would say..."it's Chamber of Commerce weather and we've got a couple of clean passes right down Broadway"...;)
