Dan is driving Brian's car (Dan's old car) this weekend in Cordova to keep his license current.
 
The races have been very kind to me this year, directly and indirectly. I wanted to go to Epping and Brainerd this year as those were the only tracks I haven't been to. For Epping, I decided to stay in New York for a week prior to the race with my son. Ended up going to the Belmont Stakes and seeing American Pharoah win the triple crown, now one of my top two sporting events of all time and went to three Giants-Mets games where I saw Chris Heston pitch a no hitter for the Giants! (I live in the Bay Area so I am a Giants fan.) Then I go to Brainerd and see maybe the most unbelievable day of drag racing of all time! It was a long, cold day but definitely worth it. As another poster mentioned, most of the fans stayed till the end-great turnout by the fans.

It is amazing the way the Funny Cars have stepped up as a group after Prock showed them what was possible at Sonoma.

This weekend was extra cool for me. Not only did all those great runs happen, but my good friend, Russ Ginger (who's trailer I was staying in this weekend) made it to the final in Super Gas. Unfortunately he lost but we still had a great time going rounds at our home track. And, another friend of mine, Brian Stewart got his first round win in his big show Funny Car against Alexis Dejoria. I had a busy day running between the stands, the staging lanes, the pro pits, and sportsman pits... With all the action going on it was hard to fiqure out where to go next. Lol. On top of all that, I got to spend the weekend with a bunch of friends who I dont get to see very often. I cant remember ever being at a race with this much action going on.

Side note: it's a good thig the on track action was so great because the zoo SUCKED big time this year. I have never seen it that lame and quiet. It was a ghost town compared to any other year.

I ran into Dave Rieff at a gas station on my way home late last night. I talked to him for a few minutes about the event and even he was absolutely amazed with what happened. After a few minutes of talking with each other, we said goodbye.... Dave turned and walked away shaking his head in disbelief while saying "three sixty six, are you kidding me"

Yeah I think Brainerd 2015 will be the topic of conversation for some time! Of course Im sure the number of people years from now who claim to have been there will more then Triple the actual count in the stands...

too cool brian, you just never know when you pickem' perfectly. reminds me of friend and relative that drove over one year and
haven't been back since; they just happened to pick the weekend bode won.
hope you had a great time for all the days of event.
 
Mike, I envy you and Paul getting to set and soak all this in, I haven't been there since early 80'S and I was racing at that time.

You mean the "camping" wristband that they constantly checked for? They checked when entering the campground, while IN the campground, and they even check when LEAVING the campground. Lol. The wristbands reacted with ultraviolet flashlights carried by track employees. They MADE SURE nobody snuck into the campground without paying.

The green "2015 Event" Lucas Oil Nationals wristband.
 
I've attended a lot of drag racing events in the past 45 years, but Brainerd 2015 was the most remarkable weekend I've ever seen. If anyone can part with their copy of National Dragster with the Brainerd results, let me know.
