BIR 2015

dave, no jason's '93 win stands and was not questioned.....i believe that same buick will be running in stock this weekend.

eugene......guess the owners were going to re-open the shell station next to front gate but the storm shifted priorities.
yes it will suck not having tom thumb open anymore.....the sunoco c-store on other side of hwy will be closest......have to make sure
there's a enough vittles packed......i think the liquor store behind tom thumb is still open?, so that's a plus
A girl that works here at the track told me the same thing. She said the plans are to have it open before the race next year.

Camp pallet seems to be off to a good start for 2am on a Wednesday night....

Palmer is back off the list, bummer.
I know Scott's a busy guy these days, besides his TFD, he's also running a TF Hydro on the Lucas Oil circuit as well, ("Liquid Voodoo" withTommy Rice piloting if you're interested,) and I'm sure it gets expensive very quickly on the budget they're running with, and need to choose where and when to run based on what they can get from it.

Hey guys, I'm only going to be able to make it up there one day, likely Saturday. Looking at ticket prices, it's going to be $55 to get through the gate, but then said to call the ticket office for a single day reserved seat. Does anybody know about how much a single day reserved seat would cost? Thanks for any insight in advance.

My brother did that a couple years ago. Went for Saturday only and I want to say it was $30 for a single day. So yeah, $85 for a single day...

I think this is the biggest cause of the declining attendance for all events rather than car counts, 1,000ft etc. It just costs too much money, especially after you figure in more than 1 person, parking, food and beverage ... It has become too easy to watch at home on the HD big screen or just not follow at all. Or people are only going 1 day, instead of all three days like in years past. Then as attendance declines, they need to jack up the prices to make the same amount of money off fewer people and then less people attend and prices go up again, vicious cycle.

have to agree, it is way too easy to watch on TV and stay at home spending disposable income on other local events.
years back when sons and/or nephew would go with, it was an easy $600 - $1000 to do a multi-day; this was 10-15 years ago;
even this year going solo for 3 days will cost me north of $600.....i don't care, it is always worth it.....
if staying in campground your money goes a long way @ BIR. the way i figure it there's a handful of
weeks/weekends that i look forward to every year, and none of them are cheap, but the reward and fun is great so IMO it justifies
the expense.
boating on local lake / golfing local 18 / taking in local sporting event......ok, fun.....but not like camping in zoo for multi-day
w/atv/golf cart/friends.....$200/day it's worth it!....damn, wish i was there today already.

and will add that for this one event annually i am not incurring flight or hotel costs....only 90 miles
each way driving.....really great fun for IMO a fair price.

what's $85/day to watch the drags all day.....what?....how much is your nfl ticket?, nba ticket?, etc.
and those events are over in less than half the time.

I agree that camping goes a long way, it also adds to the enjoyment of an event if you are staying the whole weekend and limits costs as you can mitigate the insane prices for food and drink in the track at your camper.

I also agree that the cost of a NHRA ticket is good for an all day event for those of us that are usually flying solo and like to watch most of the classes and hang out in the pits. I was thinking more along the lines of the proverbial family of 4, or even 2 buddies going to the races, the casual fan that really doesn't have much interest beyond the nitro burners. $500+ for 4 people for 1 day is a tough sell. NBA tickets don't get ridiculous until the playoffs, or if you want to sit down low. The NFL is ridiculous all the way around, but as they are the perceived king of the mountain, there is a certain cache'/bragging rights at work on Monday telling everyone you were there. I can tell you from experience, around the water cooler on Monday, no one cares that I was at the drag strip all weekend whereas they would be genuinely interested if I was at the game on Sunday. Yes the games are over in half the time, but people are getting less and less inclined to devote a whole day to an event these days.

For me, the NHRA is a tremendous value. I love it, I am usually by myself and I can usually spend 12+ hours a day inside the gates at a National Event without issue. I also realize I am the exception, not the rule. The NHRA has got us on this board lock, stock and barrell, but the NHRA cannot survive on just us. They need to figure out how to get the casual fan in the seats, and I wish I knew how to do that.

Lastly, it is not just the NHRA that is experiencing this fanbase erosion, it is happening across many sports. I genuinely believe the average fan of any sport has had enough of the being nickled and dimed to death and the advent of HDTV with excellent coverage makes it too easy to just stay home.

chris, can't disagree with anything you said.....live sports are a tough sell and getting tougher, niche' sports even tougher.
don't pretend to have the answer either to attract the casual fan.....i have taken many newbies over the years; those that can
easily afford to do it annually and those that mite not......none of them have turned into a returning customer.....still just a very core group
of us that camp together that have been doing this forever.....some come and go, but have not picked up anyone who came once
then never missed again......guess i don't get it.....maybe it's a child thing; need to be exposed at a very young, as i was.

You might check the weather forecast before you decide on Saturday. Looks like by far the worst day of the weekend. I'm on my way now from Miami so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the whole weekend!

If you're planning to visit the Zoo, be sure to bring a good pair of walking shoes. Lol

Which is why I won't be going again this year. One thing I noticed in those "good ol days" photos... an older crowd. I've noticed the last few years I've gone a younger.... douchier crowd back there.

My friend is still going... but what does this say - He is going up Friday night, and leaving Sunday morning. 2 Party nights and one day of racing. In general, he is going to party, and well there happens to be a race going on too...

I guess I got the partying out of my system years ago. I was considering going up for the day to check out the racing, but like Mark sai... $85 for a single day... yeah - no.

When you can get a reserved seat (which includes admission) at the premiere event (Indy) on the tour for a single day for $64, BIR appears to be rather greedy.

LOL... yes just look at the astronomical costs to go to the zoo (say you want to camp on Sat night, you must not only have the Saturday admission [$50] you must have a Sunday admission too - whether you can make the Sunday show or not [add $55] and a camping cost for Sat only [add $70] for a grand total of $175 just to get the "zoo experience") ...oh, and add $80 if you want to bring an ATV... and add at least $40 if you want to watch the race.

I was priced out of the zoo a few years back, and now I (and it sounds like you and many other race fans) are priced out of the race too.

The admission only charge is what gets me... what exactly does that get me? I can walk around the pits? Who on earth would travel all the way up there, pay for admission and not get a seat?

Funny, but I was just thinking the same thing about the "admission only" charge. Sure doesn't make much sense from a consumer standpoint, does it?

Same here. I can't figure out any reason to charge admission AND for a reserved seat other than greed. When I went to the Houston race earlier this year, they've now adopted the same "all seating is reserved" format, but it was still only $135.

I'd think it would be a better plan to have admission free... then charge for a seat. As long as you have good enforcement at the stands (you must buy a seat to watch the race, and not freeload at the fence or something like that - which I think BIR is already physically set up so that unless you have a seat you can't see the track). Rope in the masses, give them a free preview, then charge then when they get hooked. Seems like a better long term plan, a return on investment - let em in free, get em hooked, charge them... hope they enjoy the show and come back next year.

The zoo I understand the high prices... but not the race.

Or at the very least, you get a seat with an admission.
