Bir 2013

nick, i have to ask, don't you ever ride or walk along the backside of bir bleachers?....as stated last week,
there are NO general admission bleachers at BIR.....NONE. in fact, the last section of bleachers, which
extended to just about the 1000' finish line, was removed this year. the bleachers now end about 800',
we sat in them for round 4 saturday as well as semi finals yesterday; our reserved seats are in the larger
grandstands but security checking tickets @ top end bleachers do not mind if you choose to sit there.
......not to mention the top end bleachers are a stones throw from our camp so easy access.

Had a fantastic time, weather was about as nice as possible. My only complaint is the procedure for getting in to the main gate required us to stand in a line that was already 20 people deep to get an effing wristband. Wtf...we already have tickets and still have to wait in line? Not a huge deal but there are only two windows open. By time we reached the window, I would estimate there were easily a couple hundred people in line. It seems the procedure for getting in there changes every year and it's sure gotten expensive there. $120 for 3 day admisson plus another $60 for reserved seat, and that doesn't include camping. Would also be nice if they offered more than one food truck behind the north side grandstands.

I guess I just took their word for it. They said they sat in some stands to see the race and they didn't have a ticket. Maybe they're confusing what they did last year or somehow got into those small stands without a ticket. There are a **** ton of mobile homes parked just beside the bleachers with campsites, bars, ATV's etc. all between the road to the zoo and the track. I can't see whats between the road and the track, I assumed there could be some small stands somewhere in there. The last time I was in that area (2001) there were some beat up bleachers over there, I figured this was what they were talking about.

They had a new procedure this year. Those without a ticket (I had my reserved seat but had to purchase gen admin & camping) were directed up that road beside the gas station on the north about 1000'. Then you'd turn right and come back down 1000' and drive up to two ticket shacks. I'm guessing the 1000' (2000' total) length I had to drive was for queuing. The problem with that is, this year being it's first year with this new setup, people were pulling in and had to be told to exit the line and go around to those new booths. I'd guess next year should be a little better, unless the lines got so long they merged into eachother.

I can tell they are actively discussing the procedures and policies each year and making adjustments. Last year they scanned every single ticket in and out of the zoo (if you had to leave the main gate for whatever reason). The guy said they removed it from this year's policy because it didn't work like they figured last year.

One year they had a huge problem with sneaking people into and out of the stands (people buying say 2 reserved seats and 5 general admissions... you can sneak people in and out of the stands by going in 2, having 1 leave with 2 tix, then returning with 2 and so on), so they came up with this ticket stub policy the next year where you had to tear off the stub from your ticket and hand it to the lady on the way into the stands... and you had to pick it up on the way out of the stands... which theoretically made it impossible to sneak people into the stands.. but it caused a HUGE mess at the entrance to the stands so they never did that again.

I think the next year they eliminated general admission so it was impossible to get cheap seats and sneak into reserved (as it forced you to buy reserved seats). Since then I've never had to kick a general admission out of my seat, so it works.

There hasn't been ANY general admission seating at BIR for many years. The change happened right around the time that the current owners took over the place.

It would be nice if the current owner would learn something from the other tracks about ticket pricing. It seems ridiculous and rather greedy to not offer any GA seating.

'wild' bill feist with 1st nat. event wally - he's been at it for many years, his '69 a/s mustang always fun to watch

IMO late model copa's, mustangs & drag pack cars either need their own class within stock eliminator......or feature them
as a separate class

I guess it could be considered price gouging. It's not that out of line though... is there a general admission for say a Vikings game or a good music concert? (I'm not sure, maybe there is) They have something unique , lots of people are going, having a good time, and not even buying a seat. You couldn't get away with that at (for example) Chicago.

I guess that policy only effected me in a good way as I always put up the extra money for reserved seats. I never liked the general asmission because you never know what you're going to get... you can get in a crowd of standers, you can get lucky and get top row, but if you decide to leave you lose your spot.

I applaud the decision made by BIR to make it reserved seating only. It used to be a major pain in the butt when non reserved ticket holders would "seat hop". They'd sit anywhere, and then the people who actually had the tickets for the seats would arrive and an argument would ensue, usually involving a security guard. People would be standing, blocking the view until the "seat hoppers" would finally be evicted. Now if you don't have a reserved seat ticket, you're not allowed into the reserved seating area.

I don't disagree with that logic but when the reserved seat stands aren't close to being full, it seems having an area of GA wouldn't be a detriment. Its not a problem at Indy or Pomona. We always sit in GA there and have never had difficulty getting a seat. Granted, we tend to sit downtrack but there's always ample seating.

for us 3 adults to be there 2 days with camping, golf cart and reserved seats was approx. $750.00.
add $150 for misc. gas, food & beverage divided by (3) = $150 per day per person for non-stop all day entertainment (and most of the night ;))
the zoo is not free and continues annually because of the fees we pay to safely police this annual drag racing extravaganza

think we paid $70ea. for vikings tickets last winter for nosebleeds, plus gas, food and beverage.....all for what? maybe 4 hours?

......talked to my dad who watched it on tv and he commented on stands being not full........ :p"

wasn't there friday but i'd say both rounds saturday and 1st round sunday were very full, sunday probably the fullest - was over in sportman pits sunday am visiting, then walking back and under tunnel just prior to anthems. saw main grandstand on spectator side at this time, was very full - normally first couple sections behind starting line are sparse, not yesterday. 2nd round sunday was noticeably less. lots of folks been there all week - seen it, done it, watch 1st round and leave, head home and catch TV show,
and catch up on sleep before monday work ;)

I had an awesome time. When it was time for bed at 3:15 am Sunday morning, I was sad :( Just didn't want the last night to end.

I'm going to make a seperate post with notes, pics, and quotes later tonight.

I have a question.

I must have missed something. When did Brittany's digger lose the canopy? I saw she was running a conventional windscreen this time

I think it was the beginning of the western swing. Purchased Steve Torrence's old car which is 100 pounds lighter and started racing it at Bandimere.

I ran into Joe at Judge's Bar, intoduced myself and thanked him for coming out. I told him I liked his show, and listened every week. The girl standing next to us yells out "Oh my god you have a show!!!??? What is it??" He went on to explain what he did, and all that.

He reached into he jacket to pull out a sticker for me, and the girl went right into his shirt and jacket with both hands and frisked him a little bit to help search for the sticker LOL took him by surprise.

Joe was super nice, and was having a good time. :D
