audiocast

off again. missed most of pro stock and funny car so far. this is beyond stupid. my 15 year old neighbor guarantees he can fix this.

Wondering how far the amount of listeners has dropped over the past few years, similar to the butts in the grandstands.

Haven't been to a race in 3 yrs. Haven't tried to deal with a audio cast this yr. The only ESPN deal I watched was the NW Nats. I check results on the site. Other than that, I have pretty much given up. Not worth the BS.

I was back an forth with the NHRA webmaster about three times today. I was having IOS issues (iPad, iPhone). They admitted they they were having a tough day ... whereas yesterday went pretty smooth.

At 4:30pm CDT they swore it was up and running good, but at 5pm on the drive home I gave up (but had gotten 20 continuous minutes).

They say to contact [email protected] with issues and I was shocked that they were responsive and trying to help.

I hate, particularly on the iPhone while traveling, the repetitive log in process when you get knocked off. If I were king, they would open it up to all until they had it working good and good listenership, then put the collar back on the pipe requiring NHRA log in. As is obvious by the regularity of this thread, they are not building a listener base with the current product.

This isn't my department and I'm not making excuses but they are trying to fix it. It is no longer the dial up that seemed to get worse and worse, the system was updated (upgraded?)and is now web based.

I don't know what happened yesterday but for all of you that think you could fix it in 5 minutes, have you considered that every track has it's own phone and internet issues? I realize that your 15 year old neighbor could do an audiocast from his room that would be perfect, but have him set it up in a different motel or coffee shop every week and let's see how he does. Do you REALLY think that nobody cares? It's not as simple as you seem to think

I know that the internet in my shop works perfectly for me. I don't know how well it would work if there were 100 people trying to update twitter or download photos all day long.

On the flip side, it's not like it's the first time NHRA has done the audio cast. There are 20+ events a year, they are planned a year in advance, and they've been doing the traveling road show thing for over 60 years. I would imagine that, by now, coming to town and setting stuff up is pretty old hat for a major portion of the NHRA road crew. And the tracks know its coming as well.

My biggest gripe is that it seems so low priority. It's not clear from a distance that anyone even knows that there is a problem. We just sit here with nothing (used to be a dial tone), and don't know if anyone there knows or cares if it's working. Unlike others, my email to the webmaster went unanswered.

Perhaps you could get the webmaster to put up a note on the web page (maybe even in the player's window) that indicates the status: "no track activity", "weather delay", "technical problems", "on line", that kind of thing. That would tell us two things: 1) you know/care/are working on it and 2) it's not on our end.

LOL, either NHRA is going to provide what they say they are for our membership, or the should just quit doing it.

As for setting up at a different motel - coffee shop every week, Isn't this what this is all about? Can't run Pomona every weekend.

Hire the 15 year old.

Sorry Alan but this situation is either: 1) money or 2) technical competency. As someone mentioned, NHRA has been going to Tracks for the 'Nationals' forever. Either NHRA needs to provide their own satellite access capability via truck, generator, etc or just not say there is going to be an audio broadcast. Trying to bandaid every tracks phone/web service/.../tin cans with string is insulting. Glendora is right down the street so to speak from Pasadena, CA right? Go get one of those JPL Mars Curiousity computer jocks to 'moonlight' this mess and get it corrected. I say that due to My own feelings NHRA has lowballed the 'tech' content to this problem. There are enough of us real engineers who belong to NHRA to not recognize the problems with the approach so far. The 'IT' staff at NHRA is 'wanting'. The performance of the 'Audio Broadcast' does not come close to matching the performance of the fantastic racecars. We demand better than this on/off/on situation.

While they're fixing things, do you think you could get them to sink the ESPN3 stream with the audiocast? Hate to hear who wins before the cars get to the finish line:D

I believe ESPN3 is on a delay, just so you can't do that... (also the bad word beep factor? I've not heard M.D. toss a F-bomb since OCIR) and they are editing raw as your watching... funny, they are both coming over the same cable, having grandchildren helps your mind sort and sinc,;):o
