Atlanta, good track to go to?

Hey,
Just trying to get plans together for 2017 and instead of Indy this year I want to go somewhere else. Atlanta is the closest to me. Is that a good track to go to? Just wondering.

Number one, I personally would never go anywhere in place of Indy....two, I guess it depends on your location and how you are getting there. Atlanta is a pain in the ass for me, because I don't enjoy a two ride to and from the airport. Three, what other national events have you been to.

IMO, the ONLY reason to go to Atlanta is because it is close to you. If it is close to you, then Bristol and Charlotte are within reasonable driving distance to you. They are better spectator tracks. Gainesville would be a little bit further of a drive from ATL, but it is also a great event.

Well I've gone to Indy the last couple years so I'm wanting to change it up this year. Also I may change jobs this year so I may have to do an event before I lose vacation. I've been to Charlotte II and watched the Shane Gray blow over but didn't really enjoy the track. Atlanta is 4 1/2 hours away from north Alabama where I'm from but not much more of a drive to Bristol.

We race, but we watch too... I like both tracks, but the atmosphere of Bristol is much better (as I stare at a large Wally from racing at that track).

Went to pick my driver up from the Atlanta airport 2 years ago. 2 1/2hrs to get there, almost 3 to get back. Ugh. But we'll likely race the nationals at both tracks this year (from our home near Houston).

Pro mods are typically at Bristol ... bumps over the two tunnels under the track give you something to focus on. Beautiful place .... could retire in that area.

Agree with Jeff on Bristol. Very scenic being in the valley. I have been to every current track and Atlanta is probably my least favorite. Far from Atlanta airport and last time I was there hotels were a nightmare to get. Since I live in California, doubt I will ever get back to Atlanta.

Don't know why it is called Atlanta Dragway. First time I drove there, I could not believe how far it is from Atl. I thought I was lost. Of course that was before G.P.S.. Didn't care for the track to much.

Have never done Atlanta, wish we would because I've never spent time around Atlanta. We did Bristol the year Cory Mac had his crash and other than that, it was a good race. Stayed in Johnson City for cheap. We bought Thunder Valley Club seats and they took good care of us, but there was nobody in that grandstand. Nice track with beautiful scenery. I'd go back.

Been to Pomona, Topeka, Denver, Gainesville and Bristol...I now live in Tenn and Bristol is by FAR the best I've been too. The parking is free, the event is reasonably priced, they run PM and TF Harleys. Easy to get to, has covered seating if you prefer, trolleys to tote you from your parking to the gates.

You're leaning me toward Bristol. How much are hotels there? I've heard they ramp up prices around race weekends, but with free parking it kind a washes out I would think.

Hotels near every NHRA National event jack up their room rates on race weekends. Bristol hotels accommodate NASCAR races (the tracks are literally across a parking lot from each other), so there are likely quite a few more rooms close by than other tracks. As far as being a bucket list track, Bristol is (or should be) one of them for every drag racing fan. I've been there twice. It is a great facility and the location is pretty amazing!

Both races seem to be rain-plagued at times. I would choose Bristol over Commerce. But beware, last I checked Bristol used speed cameras. They mail the tickets out from what I heard.
