can one of you alchoholics tell me what it is they spray into the motor while they`re staging. Thanks,Mike.

its just a lubricate to keep the butterfly from freezing up since the alky motor runs so cold...
look at the injector and you'll see almost a frost on it when they are staging

It's windshield de-icer like they sell in any auto parts store. The alcohol cools way down when it is sprayed into the intake (as will any liquid), so much that the mechanical parts in there will ice up.

De-Icer so the injector blades don't freeze shut.

We use it during our warm up in the pits too. If you don't, you have no throttle control to come up on the RPM's or go wide open at the hit.

We use nitrous oxide/powermist spray in a concentrated time release formula. It clings to the back side of the injector blades and releases once you get it through low gear. Dyno tests have shown an increase of 125 horsepower during the release.

If anyone is interested I sell it for $250 per can and I am the sole distributor in the US. It comes in a can where the label has been peeled off and it smells like windshield de-icer so Collin's won't be all over you in the staging lanes. If this sounds familiar, it is. It's just like the funny car body paint we were required to buy a few years ago locally which was $250/gallon. Besides coming in one gallon paint cans with the labels torn off, it included an Office Max made label saying you got the real deal which we were required to stick on the back of our cars. Funny thing was, it looked just like bathroom paint from Home Depot...funny thing...that's just exactly what it was.

Nancy, have I been on a role lately or what? (not a dinner role).:D

I raced go-karts when I was a 12 yr old. We had a Mac 90 running alky (I went 87 mph on a road course..hehe 1967)..and my Dad would always go after the race.. "put your hand on the head of that motor Son"..LOL..it was cool in more ways than 1.

He would always have a can of WD just for the flap in our 2 carbs.

LOL..Randy..this will end up in the advertisement dept if you keep it up..LOL

Great story.

And we should all have a moment of silence because John Barry, the inventor of WD-40 ("water displacement, 40th formula attempt"), just passed away. :(
I read that Chris..I wish I would have said that.

Innovator for sure..RIP John

Is there anyone that hasn't used WD40??

How ironic would it be if the Colonel's secret ingredient turned out to be WD-40?!!

And how the hell did we get around to pronouncing "Colonel" as kurnel?

And.......back to the question. Another reason, is as the blades ice up, idle speed drops quick. On my dragster (auto trans), when it starts to ice up, the idle quality goes to hell against the converter, so we have to keep it clean. When it is hot outside, it is less of an issue. More humity, more ice.

we use a mixture of Bama Shine and alky
and also use for under the arm for good luck
no skeeters flying in our pits

the Goofy Goober:confused:
