AlGore’s personal electricity consumption up 10% (1 Viewer)

Bottom line is we are all AMERICANS and are in desparate need of leadership in DC to right some of the wrongs that are tearing this great country apart. Really does not matter if they have a D or and R beside their name--problem is seems most have a P as in POLITICIAN. More interested in getting re-elected and not in solving the problems we face.

I think they are most interested in how much they can bag in speaking fees after leaving office. And maybe a 7 figure book deal.

That's because the dollar was worth something back then it's almost not worth the paper it's printed on now so that point is mute!

Maybe Iran would have not been so hostile to us if we didn't install the Shaw he made Saddam look like a poodle. Oh yeah our government help put him in place too! LOL :p
I didn't like Carter very much either but it was a slap in his face after he negotiated ,diplomatically, the release of those hostages. Iran didn't release them until Regan took office to add to the insult.....

Bob, if we ever saw interest rates like that today we would see the WORST recession since the Great depression! We only have unemployment rates around 5%, during the 70's it was over 8%. The folks that think we're in a recession now obviously weren't around when it was truly a recession.

sadly some states are around that 8%. We've been around that number in Michigan for a couple of years. We keep watching more and more companies close their doors, only to move to other countries

Gee, I wonder why? Your state only taxes the hell out of companies making it expensive to do business there. And their fix, more taxes on businesses and individuals! That's what happenes when you've got tax and spend Dems running nearly everything in goverment.

Would you say the fact that most of them are union has anything to do with it? I know in most "right-to-work" states unemployment is not as high.

Yea Bobby...have you noticed the education/financial numbers in 'right to work' states are the lowest and the poorest....

You also have to factor the cost of things back then which was considerably lower.
A house was well under $100,000.00 in Bay Area back then I could only imagine how low in the mid west states so the intrest rate wasn't a big concern.
Joe on another note you going to Sonoma if so I'll buy the beer! :D

actually they redid the single business tax, the Republicans cut it out all together leaving a big hole in the budget that ended up shutting the gov down for a very short time.

Very interesting thing the Repubs which controlled the house/sentate at the time. Hired this outside firm to anaylize their tax plan and then spread how good it was compared to the Governors, who is a dem. Shockingly the firm came back stating that actually her plan, although not perfect, was far better than theirs, which would likely bankrupt the state. Of course it got swept under the rug then. I thought it was funny yet sad. If the experts they hired tell them it wont work why do they still have to stick to party lines and still try to push it through.

I suppose labor unions can be a part of it the issue but not completely. Recently a union was strong armed into dropping wages $10 per hour. People that were making $20-24 per hour are now $10 bucks less. How do they expect people to survive on that? Oh and the company was making money already just not nearly as much as their competitors.

With the ease of allowing companies to outsource, Michigan has been hit the hardest by this for years. We once a a healthy middle class, great schools, good tax base. People were making money, companies were making money. Over the past 10 years its been sliding away.

I'm a 110% fiscal conservative (because it's math! I assume you saw me post the connection between progressive taxes and Karl Marx the other week!) and a social liberal, because I don't think the government should be in the business of social engineering. Prohibition didn't do it and they only repealed it for the tax money they were missing out on.

I think the Democrats have moved so far to the left that the Republicans have just moved on over to where the Democrats once stood. I don't see any politicians who are even as fiscally conservative as 60s Democrats were.

When the majority of people in this country support "taxes for the rich" socialism, what does it matter who you put in office? Liberal media propaganda has worked.

People fought and died for rights and freedoms that are eroding over time. Look at eminent domain. They got income tax passed in the early 1900s by promising that it would never go to over 2% because that would be "sinful." Capitalism and small government are what created the economic environment that caused how much of the world to want to come here over time? Now those two things change with each passing year.

Meanwhile, people discuss which liberal they'll put in office.
