Their appearances at NHRA events are 8 bike fields with usually around 10 entries.

Thinking of the Charlotte 4-wide when MM Pro Stocks had a 16 car field.... Hypothetically, if NHRA decided to try for a 16 bike nitro Harley field (for example, the spring Vegas 4-wide), are there enough of them to make 16?

In 2018, there were 16 bike fields at Bristol and Indy and a 20 bike field at Gainesville. Maybe Julian Seaman can add to the conversation.

only 2 on the list for brainerd. i'm sure there will be more soon. never seen them, am looking forward to it.

They're fun to watch...especially with the front tire waving in the air so far down the strip. But there's just something wrong about getting on a motorcycle that has a parachute to help it stop.
I've ridden motorcycles on the street in SoCal for almost 40 years, but I wouldn't get on a nitro Harley for anything.

That's why they use a ballistic vest.

I remember a guy at "Lions" who looked about 90 and he had a Chest plate that he had hammered out of 1/8" iron plate that someone had to strap on him and was so crippled up and shaky he could not get on the bike by himself. He then was rolled over to the wall behind the starting line where he was fired up on what smelled like it was on 98% and proceeded to do a burn out with the front tire against the wall. This thing also had external "Girdles" to hold the heads on. I have no idea what happened after he shut it off. What could possibly go wrong?

There was a guy who ran a fuel Harley at Lions, etc. Joe Smith??? Anyhoo, he used to start the bike and then put the front wheel against the back bumper of push truck, and do the burnout. I think he would smoke the tire on the run, & he might have been the first in the 8's.

There are plenty of bikes out there to support 16 bike fields. There are many of us that choose not to race NHRA because of the cost (both time and money). If I won the race I would still loose at least $2000 and I have a lower cost per run than many others. We can race for twice the purse for a tenth of the entry fee at other venues.
