Great......since it's been so "widely" reported, I would be curious where you read it? Becuase to be honest, I've never seen it mentioned that the reason crowds are larger on Saturday is because they only run 16 cars on Sunday.

My mistake, no reason was given for the smaller crowds just that they are smaller on Sunday. However the ever shrinking group I know who still go only go on Saturday. They don't feel they get their money's worth on Sunday.

I've seen it mentioned many times and have even heard it directly from a prominent retired NHRA official.

I think Lohan is a great actress who has some troubles with life after work. Don't know what the Kardashians do as I have never watched them, but a lot of people must as they make a s***pot full of money each year. I don't watch Miley Cyrus either, but she grossed $83 million in 2013. Did anyone do this with their race team for any year?

NHRA needs to make profits to survive and grow. Race teams must at least break even to survive. They need to gain this income from sponsors and paid spectators. And to do this they must put on a show that people (every one) talks about and remembers. There needs to be a hook to grab their attention and I believe diversity in the show at all venues and live broadcasts are needed.

As it is now, just about all shows are the same and people have just plain gotten tired of watching the same ole thing.

And a hooker in vegas can make some mad cash. Doesn't mean I want us to whore out

It's called a "Bye" run. Been around since the beginning . If you want more cars to come - you've got to let more cars run.
Remember a few years ago we had low counts for a while. What happened...?? all of sudden there were cars showing up we never heard of.
Why?? because they knew they could race on Sunday. There sponsors would be seen/mentioned on TV.

The cars are out there, let them race and they WILL show up.

There wouldn't be a bunch. Only one per rd max, and not every rd.
From 17 to 24 cars you only have 3 solo's max, and as low as one solo for 24 car field

Still, even in a 17 car field there would be 4 rounds of bye passes.....one for each of the first 4 rounds. Sorry, that just doesn't cut it for me!

That, and if you let everybody run, I'm sure the number of oil downs are going to put a "drag" on the racing! You have to admit, the low budget racers are going to be pushing the limits in order to get a round win.

So if it's all run on Sunday, the lesser funded teams will make one or maybe two qualifying runs on Friday and Saturday knowing they're in the field for Sunday so what's the gain? A big part of the whole race picture is the attempts at making the 16 car field. Big name qualifying isn't a given. We've seen a lot of big team's cars go into the 4th round struggling, which only increases the drama. With an all run scenario that drama is gone.

.......small guy has one decent run, big guy can't get it together for 2 runs, small guy
races on sunday and maybe from 8th qual. or better.
friday runs @ 3pm & 6pm....same time that elims would take place on saturday; semis and finals for sure in darkness.

I just worry that because 4-wide is more of a "spectacle" kind of thing. I worry that people won't take it seriously from a spectator standpoint. For me in my opinion it is very important that drag racing is seen as a legitimate sport.

2 qual. runs friday afternoon and evening, one sat morning @ 10:30 . Eliminations start at 12:30 Sat. done by 6:30. Times can change due to local laws.
