2026 Stampede of Speed (27 Viewers)

Here is an article for the Funny Car version with a great video with Del Worsham explaining some items about it and why it exists.

Thanks for posting. I'd forgotten about that article.

I guess this means that for TAD next year, NHRA has finalized (for now) the rules for this new combination? I wonder if it is slightly different for TAD vs TA/FC?

Neat to see three injected nitro cars in TAFC. Chase Copeland and Bryan Brown have joined Mick Steele running the combination. Also Angelle Sampey will be running the one magneto blown nitro combo in TAD next year.

Chris - that's really interesting. Will she be driving for the same team as this year? What other restrictions are there do run blown nitro in TAD or TA/FC?

Angelle’s car will be moving in-house to AB Motorsports next year. The rules have been final for over a year now. Just taking a bit of time for the cars to be built and hit the racetrack.

would like to see angelle's TAD nitro injected combination improve. they are rarely towards top of Q sheet.

I forget which year it was, but I believe it was a Saturday. Many years ago, I was at the plex and it was in the upper 80’s. By the final qualifying run, it had to be in the low 50’s/upper 40’s. People were under blankets and everything. Never seen temps drop that fast in my life.

Sounds like this event is bigger than Indy was.

Like someone posted in another thread, one wouldn't have known it was NHRAs 75th birthday there. I too thought it would be a bigger deal since it was Indy (but then I was only there on Monday, so.....)

Big cold front sweeping the country. Here in southern Illinois just north of Paducah, Ky it's currently 74 degrees, were dropping 25-30 degrees overnight. High of 58 tomorrow. Low 60's in Ennis with a wind advisory and 40 mph wind gusts tomorrow. Should be an interesting day of qualifying. Beautiful Saturday and Sunday.

To beat tomorrows cold conditions they've moved Q1 of nitro up by 15 minutes to 5:00pm and Q2 of nitro up by 30 minutes to 7:30pm
Good idea but I'm not sure it'll be enough. It'll be close to 830 by the time the funnies wrap up and the forecast for that time of day in Ennis (probably a bit colder out in the middle of nowhere) is 55 degrees. Hopefully the wind will have calmed down by that time; it normally does after sundown.

Should have made it 3 and 6 and just worked it in among the other classes.

lots of TAFC dipping into low 5.40's right now. picking up a tenth from Q1 yesterday.
kirk wolf 5.29 Q2. i would bet that is a season low for him. angelle also with a 5.29.

I’ve figured it was the wind. They seem to be trying their best.

Fuel cars coming up. The Alky cars made it down OK, I hope the fuel cars can deal with the wind. Fingers crossed no wrecks.
