I watched comp qualifying today at the Winternationals. As much as I love this class, I now have to admit it is heading toward extinction. Many have called for classes and rules that drastically reduce the cost of participating and were either ignored or sneered at as being keyboard crew chiefs. Well, only 15 cars at one of the original NHRA events in car crazy SoCal.... NHRA's attempt to improve the size of the fields, while being well intentioned, didn't work at this race.

Those of you in the class who are trying to protect your investments by opposing entry level and low cost classes, how much is your junior prostocker worth now?

Quite a few racers around here jumped from Comp to Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. It's just not worth the headache, or $$$.

I love comp but it's just so crazy now.

Personally I'd love to see sportsman classes broken up into two giant bracket classes. 9.99 and quicker 10 and up. Run whatever you want, just hit the number of your choice.

Don't believe that's anywhere near to being a true statement. Bet you could count them all on one hand. Most have simply parked all together, period. It would be a tiny number and certainly not responsible for the 20-30% drop being seen at National and Divisional events.

I was going to comment on that too...shame to see the class decline and numbers of cars...California was always a hotbed of comp racers...I see one of my boys from Colorado is out there with his '62 Sunbeam...Lucky Snyder

Only TWO dragsters and SIX Super Stock cars !!! This ain't the Comp I used to LOVE......not a single B/ED on the property !!

I loved sitting at the very top end bleacher at Pomona watching comp. Loved the purple corvettes that Vinnie DeCeglie and Beckly ran in A/A and B/AA.

Here are my ideas, blast away.
-Crate motor classes, sedan, dragster and altered-minimal aftermarket stuff allowed-stock trannies
-Junior comp dragster with a 18+ year old driver
-Modified production using no older than 15 year old cars and must run original block/heads/tranny cases. Minimal chassis mods
-a through m/ gas using production cars with minimal mods in the bodywork. cubic inch to weight breaks.
-combine a lot of the existing classes with silly tranny requirements
-combine all econo(laughable isn't it?) and regular altered and dragster classes.
