I guess adding more index classes is a good idea until it gets out hand like the super classes, like a 8:90 @ 200mph super comp dragster. Even Stock have 8 second $100,000 stockers you can buy and race. NHRA have enough classes to market which they choose not to (ask sportsmans racers about Houston this year or about anything NHRA related). If they want to market something, grab 20 people out of the stands that never drag raced before. Get some dealership to loan you 20 cars and let these fans drag race on the track. Then tell them that they can do this every Friday(at least around here) night at your local track with your street car.
It shouldn't get out of hand because none of the electronic garbage that ruins Index racing is allowed on any of the Index class vehicles at Cecil, Englishtown, Atco, MIR. Here are the rules for Cecil County 10.0 and 11.50 Index classes:
10.00 and 11.50 Index - 1/4 mile racing, 16 car qualified field
1..500 Pro tree
2. Full bodied street cars only. Lettering on cars permitted but not encouraged.
3. Finished interiors.
4. Lexan windows permitted.
5. Mufflers mandatory ( inserts are NOT mufflers)
6. DOT tires maximunm 30x13.5 or any size drag radial. Slicks limited to a max size of 29x10.5(non"W")
7. Gasoline only ( alcohol and nitro prohibited, E85 permitted)
8. Stock frame and back half cars permitted (full round or square chassis cars prohibited)
9. Tubbed cars allowed.
10. Pneumatic and electric throttle stops prohibited
11. Delay devices prohibited ( 2step and trans brake allowed)
12. Any type power adder permitted.
13. NHRA Pro ladder
14. Deep staging permitted but auto start will be on at ALL times.
15. Full front bench seat or 2 front bucket seats mandatory
16. Wheelie bars prohibited.
