pretty self explanatory .... just like a 9.90 index, but well, slower .... 9.90 index just has the name Super Gas

Looks to me like the may be trying to see what the response would be adding this type of "Outlaw" racing. Drop the "Sportsman" classes and add 8.50/9.50/10.50/11.50 to the nationals? That sounds interesting.

Far from Outlaw racing Pete. Actually some pretty basic (but really cool) cars with a documented set of rules. There are 2 representatives each from E-Town, Atco Dragway, Maple Grove, and Cecil County Dragway. They all run a very similar program for the Index classes at their tracks. This was thought to be a good way to showcase that type of grass roots racing in an attempt to draw some fan interest in the weekly bracket programs.

Sounds like good Marketing to me.

Far from Outlaw racing Pete. Actually some pretty basic (but really cool) cars with a documented set of rules. There are 2 representatives each from E-Town, Atco Dragway, Maple Grove, and Cecil County Dragway. They all run a very similar program for the Index classes at their tracks. This was thought to be a good way to showcase that type of grass roots racing in an attempt to draw some fan interest in the weekly bracket programs.

It's basically door cars run the certain number, 11.50 is the slowest and there are some that are street driven cars (like Shay LaScalla's Corvette here).

It's 11.50, 10.00 and 8.50 and they will be back at E-town in 2 Weeks for the Slick Tire Shootout along with Outlaw 8.5 and Outlaw 10.5 1/8 Mile Racing.

I guess adding more index classes is a good idea until it gets out hand like the super classes, like a 8:90 @ 200mph super comp dragster. Even Stock have 8 second $100,000 stockers you can buy and race. NHRA have enough classes to market which they choose not to (ask sportsmans racers about Houston this year or about anything NHRA related). If they want to market something, grab 20 people out of the stands that never drag raced before. Get some dealership to loan you 20 cars and let these fans drag race on the track. Then tell them that they can do this every Friday(at least around here) night at your local track with your street car.

It shouldn't get out of hand because none of the electronic garbage that ruins Index racing is allowed on any of the Index class vehicles at Cecil, Englishtown, Atco, MIR. Here are the rules for Cecil County 10.0 and 11.50 Index classes:

10.00 and 11.50 Index - 1/4 mile racing, 16 car qualified field
1..500 Pro tree
2. Full bodied street cars only. Lettering on cars permitted but not encouraged.
3. Finished interiors.
4. Lexan windows permitted.
5. Mufflers mandatory ( inserts are NOT mufflers)
6. DOT tires maximunm 30x13.5 or any size drag radial. Slicks limited to a max size of 29x10.5(non"W")
7. Gasoline only ( alcohol and nitro prohibited, E85 permitted)
8. Stock frame and back half cars permitted (full round or square chassis cars prohibited)
9. Tubbed cars allowed.
10. Pneumatic and electric throttle stops prohibited
11. Delay devices prohibited ( 2step and trans brake allowed)
12. Any type power adder permitted.
13. NHRA Pro ladder
14. Deep staging permitted but auto start will be on at ALL times.
15. Full front bench seat or 2 front bucket seats mandatory
16. Wheelie bars prohibited.

Thats what this was about. Not to add a new class to National Events, it was an introduction to the crowd that this is a class that runs at track in this area on a weekly basis

Yea but how many people in the stands have a 10:00 or 11:50 second car? I have 2 tracks within 45 minutes within my house and neither one runs that class but have street night every Friday. NHRA don't even advertise divisional races in this area to promote the sportsmans classes. The best thing I like about drag racing is not only you can be a fan but also be part of the action.

Divison 2 has 3 index classes 10.00 11.00 and 12.00. I wish they would use the mid break (like 11.50) as more cars would run those classes. I think this is a great idea and will help promote sportsman racing.

And the most populated category is 8.50 and those are guys and gals that do have a tendency to run all 4 tracks, Last year Harry Gerb won the Track championships at Atco and Cecil County, did not win the Championship nor run for points at E-Town but he still came out and actually won once. Some have 2 cars where one races one track and the other is another, Rodger Purdy the reigning RP Track Champion and Ali Buscio are RP standouts, Rodger's twin Brother Dan and Ali's Hubby Craig run Atco and/or Cecil and they have totally different Cars (ie Ali's is a Black 84 Regal with 516 CI Chevy & Nitrous and Craig's is a Salmon colored Nova).

I do hope 11.50, 10.00 and 8.50 Index is a part of next year's Summernationals.

I was fortunate to beat him a few years ago in Super Comp. I went 170 mph and he was nearly 210 mph. Impossible to see until the last second and he blows by you so fast you don't know who took the stripe. It is so loud you can hear his engine over your own.
