I don't necessarily think the bonus points are a bad idea. I just think it stinks that they weren't included in the rules prior to the race last winter in Pomona. It's simply ridiculous to change the rules this late in the season.

If it wasn't for the countdown I would agree, but since everything is resetting anyways I don't think it is too bad.

You shouldn't change rules mid-season like this ala NASCAR. Some forsight should have been used (I know) when they decided to race at 1000' for the whole year and now apparently forever. Who knows who may have made the C'down if these rules were implemented at the start of the year? Run what you brung and make changes at start of a new season.

What happened before now is barely relevant since they are basically throwing it out anyways. Resetting the points is a much bigger change than this is.

Looks like the return to 1320 won't be happening very soon:

NHRA to set 1,000 foot records, award bonuses

Should be interesting to see what it does with qualifying performances during the last races of the season.

at least there was a note at the end of the paragraph indicating test and evaluation will still be going on in order to slow the cars down, so there may be a sliver of hope that the 1/4 mile will return and i hope so cause i sure do miss goin' to the races
