Shawn Langdon, Kalitta Air Careers Dragster
Finals Broadcast Replay (eastern time): 7-10 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 on FS1
Qualifying: Shawn Langdon was the No. 1 qualifier at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. It was his fifth No. 1 qualifier in the season’s first 10 races and the 27th of his career. He made his best qualifying attempt in the final session Saturday afternoon when he reached the finish line in 3.695 seconds at 333.08 mph.
Eliminations: Langdon had a Bye run in the first round but made the quickest pass of the first round with a 3.736-second effort at 337.07 mph. He eliminated his teammate, Doug Kalitta, in the second round and faced Maddie Gordon in the semifinals. Both cars smoked the tires, but the Kalitta Air Careers dragster lost traction first, and Gordon won the round. Langdon advanced to at least the semifinals in nine of the 10 races in the first half of the season.
Unofficial Point Standings: Langdon leaves Norwalk in first place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. He leads his teammate, second-place Doug Kalitta, by 150 points at the midway point of the season.
Langdon on Norwalk: “The Kalitta Air Careers team had a great weekend. We qualified No. 1, won the Mission Foods too fast, too tasty, and we were low et (elapsed time) of every session up until the semifinals. The weather warmed up quite a bit for the semis, and we just smoked the tires at the starting line – it happens, but it was still a good weekend.
“Overall, we had a big week; threw out the first pitch at the (Detroit) Tigers game on Thursday. Thanks to everybody at Fifth Third Bank for hosting us at the game and at our partner summit. It was a great event, and thanks to everybody for coming. We had New Image (Building Services) with us this weekend – thanks also to Gerber, SealMaster, Revchem and PJH. We’re looking forward to Sonoma.”
