J.R. Todd, DHL Funny Car

Finals Broadcast Replay (eastern time):
7-10 p.m. Tuesday, June 30 on FS1

Qualifying: J.R. Todd was the No. 6 qualifier at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. His best qualifying attempt happened during the final session Saturday afternoon when he posted a 3.916-second effort at 335.70 mph.

Eliminations: Todd defeated Jordan Vandergriff on a “hole shot” in the first round. Todd left the starting line first; Vandergriff’s car made a quicker run, but Todd’s starting-line advantage was the difference in the race. In the second round, Todd raced points leader Ron Capps. The cars left the starting line together, and it was a close race until the DHL GR supra smoked the tires allowing Capps to get the win.

Unofficial Point Standings: Todd leaves Norwalk in third place in in the NHRA Funny Car point standings. He trails second-place Matt Hagan by 12 points and leads fourth-place Jack Beckman by five points.

Todd on Norwalk: “Our DHL GR Supra made five clean runs down the track this weekend and qualified in a solid position; we just missed it second round against (Ron) Capps. We’re sticking around to do some testing tomorrow to shake this car down before we head west in a few weeks. I’m hungry to win for DHL, SealMaster, Fifth Third Bank, PJH, and I really want to get these guys a diamond Wally – they deserve it.”
