Phil Burgess' column in nhra.com really choked me up with nostalgia. His current piece, location photography with Steve Reyes, again reminds me about what is so sorely missing from drag racing today. The unashamed enthusiasm those from the golden era had for their cars and their sport.

Isn't it amazing that a bunch of motorheads and scrappy photographers from the 70's can so thoroughly shame the PR experts of today. One great picture and story about Nanook in Redondo Beach so easily trumps all of the crap and stream of consciousness blogging that comes from today's super teams.

A word to corporate sponsors of drag racing. Your insistance on dumbing down the personality and excitement of our sport leaves most of us LESS LIKELY to buy your product. Just sayin.

Yep I remember just about each and everyone of those pictures when there were published in the magazine. Dragracing USA and SuperStock and Drag Illustrated where 2 of the best back then. Great Stuff, Phil & Steve.
