For one, Benzes are among the least reliable cars according to many major publications. Secondly (and this goes for most major automakers) you NEVER take your car to a dealer for repairs! Go to an independent shop.
As for the oil changes, my dad is a manager at Mobile Lube Express. He has heard all sorts of stories from people who went to Jiffy Lube and got scammed or had their cars messed up.
Fortunately, because my dad is a manager I get my oil changed for free and because my dad's good friend owns a shop I get all my repairs done for free as well.
Back in '76, I worked as a tire changer at a local Goodyear store. An elderly lady brought her Buick Century in for repair. The engine had an intermittant miss. The mechanic that serviced the car was in training. I watched him install points ( no help), plugs and dist. cap ( again, no help), and plug wires ( Yawn, do you see a pattern). He then adjusted the carb. ( do I dare say it?). After all this, I walked over. I saw water puddling under the car. Upon further inspection, I noticed a tiny stream of water spewing from a heater hose. This stream would hit the dist. cap and cause the misfire. It would only happen after the engine was at operating temp (thermostat opened). They charged her for all parts installed when she only needed a 4' piece of 5/8 heater hose.
