What I hate is, I DVR it, then sit down to watch it & only get to see part of it because the show before ran over.
What REALLY hacks me off is when they do it to Sundays race & there I am all ready for final round & all of a sudden the DVR says recording ends & says
delete recording? Now I try to remember to record the show after the race also.

Unfortunately, I have also resorted to recording several hours of shows after the time slot just to be able to get it all.

Tom Compton doesn't give a S$$$ what NHRA members and/or fans want! -

Jim, you hit the nail on the head with that one, with the points system being a perfect example. It's bad enough they institute a new points system that the majority of people don't like but then they have to brainwash you with it. The move back to 90% is the first good move they made in a long time and look at how long it took to get that done.

I think the worst was when a race was delayed for BASS FISHING. And those guys get $250,000 for catching a fish while our racers go 330mph for $40K each race.

The best part of that BASS FISHING show was when the guy flew between two other boats at max speed and got busted. The guy was hilarious trying to deny it.

why don't every one who is pissed off about not seeing the PRO part of the events, ask MR Lucas WHY he get his Sportmans program on at HIS set time and date. and it's not late from what I been told.

Simple, 'cause it's tape delayed (by a week) and usually shows at a time when it's not being pushed by other live programming.

As long as NHRA pro is competing in prime time, you're going to conflict with live programming.

Does anyone know how the deal between NHRA and ESPN works? Does NHRA have to purchase air-time or what? If that's the case, maybe the acquisition will result in more resources to purchase a better air-time package that might eliminate some of this?

Anyone..............................anyone?

NHRA pays ESPN about $100,000 per hour for airtime...

I don't like being pre-empted by other sports but I do understand it. This whole problem stems from sponsorship concerns! If HD Partners does what I'm hoping they can, they'll create the value to sponsorship entities to the point that we'll have sponsors bidding for space during our broadcasts as other sports have. Creating such value is a matter of salesmanship coupled with demographics, target market demonstrations and product placement. When someone can show the value of our viewing market to sponsors sufficiently, then the sponsorships will compete and gladly pay for our air time, not the sanctioning body. Until then, this will be an ongoing discussion.

I don't care what business your in, if you don't market sufficiently to demonstrate or even create the value in your product you're doomed to mediocrity. That's where we now stand in comparison to these other sports who have sponsors bidding/fighting for their air space.

Has anybody heard that if HD Partners goes through with the purchase that they will go Pay-Per View on Direct TV (They Own It) with the NHRA programming or is the contract with ESPN going to survive the change of ownership?

I hope I'm misunderstanding what you're saying. NASCRAP on live television for free, but having to pay to watch NHRA?

If that happens, we're done.

ESPN did that at three races about 10 years ago. Live, commercial-free coverage from Sunday pre-race to the final final. It was $14.99, and worth every penny to me. One of the events (St. Louis, I think) had rain delays, so the program lasted about 12 hours if I remember right. Big MaC is sure to remember that day. He looked pretty tired by the end of that broadcast.

That sounds good, but you have to keep in mind that most people won't pay $60 to get Fri/Sat live audio. How many people do you think will pay $345+ for a tv show?

Tape delay shows will always be preempted by live shows no matter what network it's on. If you want NHRA on prime time this will alway happen.

That's probably not all that far off. NHRA will get about 100 hours of programming putting the price tag at about $10 million. A few years ago when I was at NHRA the number I heard floating around was about $8 million a year and there was less programming on then.

I guess I was interpreting Jet's remarks as the pay-per-view would be the only choice. If they continue with the tape delayed programming as it is now and offered a PPV as a supplement, then obviously, I don't think that would hurt anything.

At Indy I was told this HD deal isn't signed yet. Too many details to be worked out yet.

BTW: I'm not certain these guys have anything to do with Direct TV anymore. Believe it's been sold a couple times (which, frankly, is something that bothers me about this proposed deal).

Paul-

I told you what NHRA pays a year to ESPN

Jay told you what NHRA pay's per hour to ESPN

Brent did the math on what NHRA pays ESPN
and what he heard a few years ago-

There is no smoke being blown here- Those are facts!!
You better buy extra butt wipe or new pants if you can't handle the facts, because I have a feeling a bowel movement from you when you do realize the facts- And none of us smoke crack!! Marlboro's- :D

What do you think it costs for an episode to be aired of your favorite one hour show on TV?? How about a half hour game show?? If you want it to play, you gotta pay- In bunch's!! The big bags of cash- ;)

Any idea on what it run's for a 30 or 60 second commercial?? You would be out of charmin and pants!! :p
