Maybe Pro Stock should be more like NASCAR with a COT. Then you can make a Pontiac a Toyota with just a decal change.

If you guys want to blame NHRA for sponsors leaving then I guess you blame Nascar for the sponsor problems they are having.

Yes we do and we should, the lack of entertainment in both arenas is very obvious. The COT is a bust and so is the television packages on both sides. Just look at the empty grandstands in NASCAR it will be coming soon to a drag race near you...

Damn, Dave! Don't give 'em any ideas! :(

This is the stuff I think Warren is referring to!

This is were NHRA needs to be more accommodating in helping in the sponsor search rather than excluding them so they can line their pockets with official sponsor money!
I thought to be an official sponsor for NHRA you have to sponsor a team how did they get around that?

Really? I didn't see many empty seats in Pomona.

Being the season opener and ender, Pomona has always been well attended. But the increasing amount of empty seats has been talked about on here for the last couple of years. I've attended most of the races here in the midwest, and I can tell you that in the past three or four years there has yet to be a full house anywhere I've been, and that includes Indy.

If you were sitting in the stand it would look that way!
That's why they stopped showing arial views of the grandstands it's pretty visual from that angle.
I think NHRA looks at it as a sellout if they sell all the Grandstand seats. I don't think they have ever had a sellout or even close to one. :p

It seems to me that the NHRA has furnished a professional venue for Warren Johnson and his family to voluntarily compete in for many years, and Mr. Johnson and his family seem to have profited quite nicely. If he isn't happy with the NHRA, then he should race in the IHRA, UDRA, or whatever other minor-league sanctioning bodies are out there. Racing in the NHRA is voluntary, and there are other options out there.

That works both ways,he has provided his enterprise to the NHRA so they can sell tickets. If you invest as much as WJ has,he has the right to his say and opinion.

I think you are WAY out of line here. Warren Johnson defined Pro Stock period!
He does not owe NHRA anything. In fact the converse would more aptly apply here. I don't think Warren needed NHRA's playground to achieve what he is today.

Warren was an IHRA champ before NHRA went to what was then "mountain motors" (500 ci). As for his remarks at the top end, a LOT of other pros have told me the exact same thing! BK

I disagree. Could Warren Johnson have achieved the same racing accomplishments in another sanctioning body? Probably yes. Would these racing accomplishments in another sanctioning body have provided him with the same public recognition and financial gain? Probably not. The NHRA would have survived and prospered without WJ, but in my opinion, WJ would not have been as prosperous without the NHRA. If WJ is blaming the "lack of leadership" for whatever problems that are affecting his race team, then he also needs to complement the NHRA for providing him a series to race in that has made him very successful for many years. The NHRA can't do anything about the state of the economy, but WJ can certainly do something about his race team's lack of recent performance.

Oh Please:
Which came first? The Chicken or the Egg?
WJ has a value to those of us who value him. For the rest of you, please move on to the "Big Daddy to AJ" thread if you wouldn't mind.
Warren's contributions and accomplishments speak for themselves and they came because of HIS OWN KNOWLEDGE, PERSISTENCE, HARD WORK, GENIUS and yes, opportunities.
Does he have more wins than anyone else in his class? DUH!
Did he design the very engines that have won the championships for the past too many years? YUP!
Does he have his own personality? Of Course, just like we do.
I, for one, think he's one of the wittiest, most clever, fun and entertaining people that have ever graced our sport and the NHRA owes him way more than he will ever owe them.
Love him or not, he's a classic fixture that will stand the test of time!

Your right NHRA can't do anything about the economy but they sure as hell can be more accommodating to the people who put on the show!
NHRA hasn't done a thing to ease the cost to the racer who invests a lot of time, money and resources so NHRA could exist!
They haven't increased purses in accordance with the cost to the competitors for way too long.
I for one think WJ is a great asset to the NHRA and should be treated as such!
When Warren speaks the powers to be should listen he has been around a lot longer then the people running the show right now.
