Will we see Busch's car again?...?.

I think Kurt did a really good job driving the car over the weekend. With the exception of the yips on Friday I was very impressed.

Me too, Paul. I think he did a very nice job reeling it back in after the first day. The in-car shots showed him to look pretty solid also. I realize only the computer graph can tell the true tale, but he looked physically sound and under control. Finished it off with a more than respectable light and solid pass in his first professional round of competition.

Nice job.

dave, i'll take x-stock elim. racers for $500 please :D
can't remember who was where when, but jason l. and kurt b. paths must
have crossed when jason worked @ gibbs nascar operation?
though it somewhat apropos jason won the race kurt was entered in

Kurt has only raced for Roush and Penske ... Kyle was at Gibbs, but I am pretty sure Jason Line had left JGR by then.

And I am also happy to see WJ has picked up and I would also love to see him get to Wally # 100.

wondering if they knew each other while both in nascar - jason's nhra debut was '03 and i think busch was in cup by then as his cup title was '04?

I'm sure there is plenty of love for Kurt Busch, but seriously guys this just a novelty for him. My point is that he is not in the PS class for the long haul because he takes a spot from some team that is on the road for the long haul. That spot could be a make or break for a teams season either in gettring into a field or points. So its all good that he wants to race PS, but make a bigger commitment. I think if he wanted to do this as hobby race S/C or Top Sportman you can get your thrills there for going fast. IMO

bruce, i disagree - kurt's participation, although only one race at this point, is no different than the
plethora of wealthy businessmen that choose nhra pro racing as their hobby; the fact that kurt is a well known
and very successful nascar driver only adds to the healthy dose of limelight
shown on the nhra and it's pro stock class last weekend.

i dout it.. if i remember correctly Jason was a shop crew member.. and didnt go to to many events.. and its kind of an unwritten rule for team members to not associate to much with other team members of different mfgrs at events... other social activites probalby dont matter much..but i dout they hung out in the same crowds...lol

I understand and respect your argument, but for all the exposure Kurt Busch gives the sport of NHRA drag racing and the Pro Stock class, it can only help bring more fans into it, which will help ALL teams over the long run.

I am sure it brought some NASCAR fans to Gainesville who wouldn't have gone, who I am sure were introduced to the sport for the first time. And as we know, once you get someone to the strip, you have a good chance of getting them to come back or even tune into more races on TV. That doesn't happen if Kurt is running a sportsman class. I didn't hear anything about tv ratings, but hopefully they were better.

An example, my brother who has started getting into Pro Stock racing and AJ racing the last two seasons (went to E'town and Maple Grove in 2010) will be going to Bandimere if Kurt Busch, also his favorite NASCAR driver, runs the Mile High Nationals. And, I will be making the cross country trip with him.

Only shame is that NHRA only races on two of the Sprint Cup off weekends. What it should teach the brain surgeons at NHRA HQ is to do a better job of scheduling their races to maximize the ability to bring in new fans, i.e. schedule races when other series, specifically Spring Cup, aren't racing.

Nothing but good can come out of this for NHRA, IMHO.

How many off weekends is there during the NASCAR season?

Mike you are absolutely correct. Nowhere in the rulebook does it say you have to run for a championship, or don't run at all. That type of thinking would ban the Zizzo's – Liton's – Enders – Connolly's etc. etc. from competition.

There were 16 qualifying spots available. Kurt earned his position fair and square – he " took" nothing from anyone. I am not a Kurt Busch fan, in fact until he ran super comp last year I never heard of him, but I welcome any and all that want to compete in the Pro classes, be it for one race – five races – 10 races – or the entire season. Here's an interesting take on the Kurt Busch story--a friend of mine who lives in the area near the Gators said LOTS of his NASCAR friends were going to their first drag race, mostly to see Kurt Busch up close and get an autograph. As diehard NASCAR fans, they are pretty much unable to interact with drivers at Nascar events except for special appearances, etc. They were blown away at the ability to get up close and personal with drivers and crews while actually at a racing event. AND they were AMAZED at the sensory experience of the races. All of them said they will be back to another NHRA race.

That's great to hear!

That's great news. Maybe Mopar (or Shell) could fly him in to attend the Sunday NHRA races that follow the Saturday Cup races. His presence alone would be a continued boost for us and garner some coverage with the Cup gang.

i think kurt will continue to pursue NHRA pro stock only if his cup results are good. he indicated that he will only attend denver if he is solidly in the 'chase'. i remember years ago rusty wallace was seriously contemplating giving pro stock a try, but if memory serves, about that time his cup results started to fall a bit and i'm guessing his drag racing aspirations took a back seat while he had to concentrate on getting his team back up to speed !

GREAT idea, Mr. Mopar! Hope someone who could make that happen might see it here. I really believe NASCAR fans will come regularly to NHRA races after they have been exposed to it once. And from the looks of the grandstands at the Cali race this past weekend, a lot of NASCAR fans may be looking for some different forms of motorsports.

Thanks Terry. I would recommend NHRA look at booking in select high profile Cup drivers when the schedules allow them to do so...keeping Kurt in the mix.

say John, if they (CUP) race on Saturday... Perhaps Bush could qualify for Pro stock on Friday – then fly to his Saturday cup race – fly back for Sunday's finals?? It could happen:p
