IMO looking at it from a business standpoint, based on ones I have been involved with, they are not making anymore land, if you own the property it is more than likely going to be worth more than when you purchased it. Also these are large tracts which are desirable to many builders, warehouses etc.
Even if things do not work out and he can sell off his properties and break even that would be amazing in business.
