Why do you drag race

I do because of the enjoyment of creating a mechanical machine that acvhieves all things in which I planned to achieve. Personal pride in my workmanship. Bragging rights. The need for speed. The enjoyment of associating with people enjoy the sport of drag racing.

Why do birds fly and fish swim? They're born with it, at least that's how I feel about why I do this.

Teamwork, Trust, Intellectual stimulation, Friendship, Adventure, Competition, Fun, Hard Work, Long Hours, Peace of Mind, I could go on.........

Besides, I would never jump out of a perfectly good running airplane nor jump off of a bridge with a rubber string keeping my feet tied together LOL

Your comment is the reason I ask because we all have a driving reason why on Friday night we're in the garage making the final checks, going down the checklist, calling the people who suppose to help, you gonna be there man, its a mind numbing experience that I would recoommend to any person who seeks exhibit his/her individuality. Sitting behind the wheel you feel that you can do the impossible. Like guy told me, "lose a lot, win a few" but the few win are totally awesome.

I got another one, your up aganist the local track hero. You got you stuff all in one pile. You make your run and you lose again this by .005. For golfers its like putting the ball in the fairway, second shot in front of the pin on a uphill slope, pull the putter an put nice aggressive stroke on the ball an then you watch the ball just graze the hole by the tiniest of margins for your 81. You're at the Pro Shop before you can get off the course getting new putter. For drag racers it might be a new carb, a set tires, finding the lastest guru on carb tuning, or might be a need another cam. I tell this is addicting as hell.

Every time the announcer calls "Street Eliminator, mount up!" I feel like a kid all over again as I put the helmet on, fasten the belts, and start the car up.

And that's a mighty good feeling for an old fart like me!

I love racing, the speed and the competition.

I have a short attention span, Nascar just wouldn't work.

"Turn left, go fast, turn left, go fast, wonder what's for dinner - BAM!"

Because I heard you could get rich...:D Seriously, for all the reasons mentioned. And, life is about making memories. My dad and I still talk about when he was running A/A back in the '60s and '70s, and the memories created during that era, and by staying involved in different capacities over the decades, are priceless. He'll be 70 next week, but we're not done yet!

Nubz that is quite impressive. An believe there are great number of fathers and sons out there that have similar expierences. I would imagine that Don Schumacher is quite proud of Tony. It is great to hear that drag racing is being past down to following generations. This keeps the sport vibrant and new perspectives, and impressions, and expierences keeps the the sport alive.

My oldest son and I (He's a motor head, through and through) are doing our best to get an S10 bracket truck ready for a few passes late this summer. He's in the early stages of starting a landscaping business though, and his time might be short. But we're going to do our best to get it done.

I have to admit I am so hooked I need a padded Roll Cage and a Fireproof Jacket !
I hate being broke down so I have to have two cars in case ones down !

And there's absolutely no truth I was sent out by my Late wife when we were young and had young kids to buy milk and ice cream and came back 8 hours later with melted Ice cream and a four barrel Intake for my old 56 Gasser ! It was a four BBl. carburetor ! :D

My son and I were going to enter two cars in Pinks All Out but since it's on Hiatus we will just have some fun and continue to gather parts and go faster !

Like a friend of mines car says on the side ! " Cheaper Than Therapy " .

Several others credit Drag Racing for leading a clean sober life ! Yeah it doesn't leave enough money leftover for drugs or drinking ! ;)

Well I don't have a racecar anymore; but I do it all because of my Dad, who got me interested in cars and racing. It's just "in you" and never goes away. Even on the street - to this day, at an intersection, I have to be the 1st car to move and have the best R/T when the green flashes......

Because my family couldnt find a way to spend ALL my money...So drag racing is my contribution to the effort
