WFO Wins the 2006 PSCA Pro Street Championship

(11-11-2006) PHOENIX, AZ - The WFO MotorSport/Dyno-Flo/SI-Valves Chevrolet Cavalier of Steve Paulauskis, headed by crew chief Kelly Bluebaugh of WFO Racing and Machine, took the west coast’s Pacific Street Car Association 2006 Pro Street season championship at California Speedway in Fontana this past weekend, November 3-5, 2006. Team WFO dethroned reigning three-time champion Ed Thornton and his famous turbo-powered ‘57 Chevy by 200 points.

2006 has been a fantastic first year for Paulauskis and Bluebaugh, who upped the ante and took the PSCA in a new direction, being the first and only PSCA Pro Street regular to break into the 6.40 range. Paulauskis and the WFO team also qualified in the number one position at nearly every PSCA event this season.

The season finale started off with a bang as Paulauskis set the crowd on fire with an unprecedented 6.442 @ 219.76 bye run in the first round of eliminations. The WFO MotorSport/Dyno-Flo/SI-Valves Chevrolet Cavalier continued to charge hard, running a bracket style string of 6.44’s and 6.46’s at just under 220 mph throughout eliminations. Paulauskis advanced all the way to the finals, where he faced the supercharged ‘57 Chevy Pro Mod of veteran driver John Scialpi. Scialpi was visiting the PSCA in preparation for the upcoming Street Car Super Nationals II. Every racer and fan crowded the stands, fence line, and staging area to see if Pro Street could match up to Pro Mod in what proved to be the most thrilling match up of the year. Paulauskis and the WFO team stepped up to the challenge, taking Scialpi and his Redline Oil ‘57 Chevy out on a stunning hole- shot that earned the win by .0083 with a 6.463 @ 218.27 to a quicker but losing 6.437 @ 219.29. Screams rang out from the crowd as Pro Street had taken Pro Mod, proving that the future may hold a closing gap in performance between the two classes. Scialpi’s 6.437 is the quickest ET ever run in the PSCA and breaks the long-standing record of 6.513 held by Thornton and the FAST Motorsports/Extreme Speed team, set in November of 2004.

Paulauskis and the WFO team will be heading to the Street Car Super Nationals II in Las Vegas November 16th-19th. There they will be joined by Pro Mod legend Charles Carpenter, who will be tuning the engine on the WFO MotorSport/Dyno-Flo/SI-Valves Chevrolet Cavalier. Paulauskis and Team WFO have high hopes for this race after recently qualifying in the ninth position and making the quarterfinals at this year’s Real World Street Nationals in Orlando, FL on their first appearance at the huge event. Team WFO is currently gearing up for the challenge to again meet some of the nation’s top Pro Street contenders, which will officially round out the 2006 racing season for the team.
