Team Transit Mix Wins 2007 WCHRA Prostreet Championship

Kelly Bluebaugh of the Worlds Fastest Organization (WFO) and Prostreet Champion, Steve Paulauskis win the West Coast Hot Rod Associations (WCHRA) 2007 Prostreet Championship for Team Transit Mix and sponsor Tom Nelson despite difficult times. Last month, Paulauskis was forced to sell the Team Transit Mix Cavalier, the West Coast’s fastest Prostreet car, before the end of season with a sizable lead in series points. Paulauskis said that the support provided by Nelson and Team Transit Mix allowed us to race as long as we did this season with the Cavalier. Bluebaugh and Team WFO, known for being the team that never quits managed to pull in the championship with Bluebaugh’s new Prostreet Monte Carlo, which was obtained below cost from Ron Weems at Toy Factory Racing. The Monte Carlo was not slated to be fully competition ready until 2008, however Bluebaugh and the team could not just let the championship slip away. Bluebaugh said all we need to do is enter the race and qualify and we will likely secure the win. Though far short of finances, a decision was made to make an all out push to finish the Monte Carlo over a few short weeks. Friend and ProMod legend Charles Carpenter put in a rush order for a new Fulton block, crank and cam, and provided gently used rods and pistons to make up a new short block. Long time friend and Prostreet racer, Eric DeRoche pitched in finances, gas, and tires. Local merchants provided spark plugs, oil, and miscellaneous supply and the team put on the Worlds Fastest garage sale making the race with only hours to spare. Bluebaugh said making the WCHRA finals, which was held at Speedworld in Phoenix September 21-22 2007, was only possible with the help of good friends and we were fortunate to accomplish the championship even through suffering engine problems at the race. During qualifying an exhaust valve broke damaging the head beyond on-site repair ending the weekend early for Bluebaugh, Paulauskis, and Team WFO. It was bitter sweet to both win the championship and damage the motor all in the same day.

Plans are already in the works to repair the damages and Team WFO will undergo some major changes in organization for the remainder of the year and 2008 season. Bluebaugh will step back into the drivers seat in the Monte Carlo and his girlfriend, Deborah Woodard, who has become a precision tuner of the engine and clutch, will take over the responsibility of the Crew Chief position. Woodard came to the team in 2001 with previous experience and has been studying with both Bluebaugh and Carpenter over the last six years. The team will phase out the WFO name for the racing team. WFO, The Worlds Fastest Organization, has been incorporated by Woodard and will have interest in Bluebaugh Racing, WFO Racing and Machine, and act as the head of marketing and public relations over all racing enterprises. The team will take on a new partner, Eric DeRoche who will act as a secondary driver and eventually bring a new Jerry Haas Prostreet Car to make a two-car team as Paulauskis takes a brief rest working on the crew. The team will race as Bluebaugh/DeRoche Racing. Woodard has already started actively seeking team sponsorship for the 2008 season and hopes to make announcements shortly. Bluebaugh and DeRoche are considering running the next Pacific Street Car Association event in Phoenix in preparation for the Street Car Super Nationals, which will wrap up the season for the team. We would like to thank Tom Nelson and Team Transit Mix for sponsorship and look forward to a racing relationship in the future. Special Thanks to Ron Weems of Toy Factory Racing for our new Monte Carlo. Thanks to Charles Carpenter for continuing support and friendship. Thanks to Eric DeRoche and all our friends who made this championship possible. Last but certainly not least to our crew Wally Tuttle Jr., Wally Tuttle Sr., and Bill Kinkade, it is excellent teamwork that has carried us to success.
