Looks like pretty typical Winternationals weather, even though this year's event is about 6 weeks later than normal. As long as the sun is out to heat the track, the Crew Chiefs should be able to make some solid runs. It's the last Qualifying session on Sat afternoon that can be tough if the track cools off too much.

Looking forward to the Night of Champions event Friday evening. I have attended several and they are always good what with the intimate setting of the NHRA Museum and the Q&A format they usually have. Beckman is really good as the host. This year it is supposed to feature Tim Wilkerson and Alan Johnson discussing Crew Chief strategy. I highly recommend attending this event after watching Friday's action at the track.

Water is 2 parts hydrogen 1 part oxygen, I know you can blow a hole in piston by trickling water in intake at higher rpm from power of blast from water, can crew chiefs figure that to advantage with most air, maybe somebody can explain yes or no reason why it may work or not, yes I know everybody knows what water is made of just couldn’t think of better to start question,

Pete Robinson ran a water injector in Top Gas Dragster in 1961. I remember reading about it in Hot Rod. That was the year he won the Nationals in Indy.

Thought the new schedule was supposed to make travel easier and hopefully lead to more participants/higher car count. Guess not so much.

Things sure were different at Pomona when both Pomona races would always see many part-timers show up for easily 20 to 22 cars in TF and sometimes the same in FC. Of course the stands were always packed back then as well. Major demographic changes in CA and very little advertising are to blame for low attendance. No chance of a sellout at Pomona these days. But I still love that there are two Pomona events each year. I'm planning on attending two days this weekend.

Basically the more O2 you have in the air the more power you can make. Air - Especially in Pomona does not carry a full 20% Oxygen with all the pollution and pollen as well as well as the ABSOLUTE humidity. Besides the fact that water displaces Oxygen lowering the % it also dilutes and contaminates the fuel. Ideal conditions would be clean air and low water grains at about 60 degrees. In the case of Gasoline people used to spray water into the intake air filter horn because it it stopped (Slowed down) both Pre Ignition and Detonation. Worked great on your Tow vehicle. That is no longer necessary on modern vehicles because of electronics (Knock & Oxygen sensors) that can read oxygen in the exhaust and change timing at up to 40 times per second if need be. In Drag racing the CC has to know the weather (air) factors probably at least as much as anything else when tuning for a run.

Average performances so far; no TF car in the 3.60s yet. Two high 3.80 FCs, DeJoria low for R1. Caruso lookin' good again; she's low.

Water in the air is a somewhat complex deal.

What you get on the evening news is % relative humidity which is Vapor Pressure / Saturated Vapor Pressure

lets look at 2 examples

60 degrees 50% relative humidity - 0.2607 vapor pressure - 0.5213 saturated vapor pressure - 38.3 grains of water

90 degrees 50% relative humidity - 0.7091 vapor pressure - 1.4182 saturated vapor pressure - 105.7 grains of water
