I usta think SGMP was a Pro Mod, 1/8 mile track. Never been there, finally realized it was 1/4 mile. Always saw the bleachers by left lane. Watching the race showed me a lot more of the track. Hoping next year will be a lot better track conditions.

what was the crowd like over the weekend? hard to tell on sunday tv show.
for a smaller venue, it didn't look overly packed? 3.5 hour drive from atlanta. i doubt too many
make that drive for a day trip.

Based on the aerial views of the track, it seems that they have much smaller grandstands than Gainesville and the grounds were not that big for parking. One view showed cars parking on the oval track next door as they don't have a lot of parking based on aerial shots I saw. SGMP is about 3.5 hrs drive from Orlando and about the same from Atlanta. Definitely not a day trip race from those metro areas.

Based on the aerial views of the track ......
i like that aerial pic, speaking of which, when are we going to see drones used again for the tv production?
as mentioned previously, i sure don't mind if a few of the nat. events serve somewhat smaller markets. this particular location
is a little unique in that gainesville isn't too far south, so you might be trying to convince some fans to double dip, which i don't
think everyone has the ability to do every year, especially so close together in dates.

A buddy of mine runs Stock Eliminator and he was there. He said he had to drive through the midway to get to the track. He said it was a cluster for the Sportsmen.

still looking at the aerial pic, i can understand this. what a hassle. i'm thinking epping mite experience this to a degree as well?
(all pits on one side of track on a narrow piece of land). a narrow piece of land that works is bradenton, with enough pit space
on both sides of track. good parking too, plus a lot of infrastructure upgrades lately ..... the Florida Citrus Nationals; has a nice ring to it.

SGMP doesn't have a return road so the cars and crew vehicles had to go through the midway or the pits which were parallel to the midway.

I found parking to not be a problem Friday and Sunday. They have two really big grass lots for general parking and no charge. I think the oval was used for red key, etc parking except Saturday when they closed the big lots due to the rain and everyone had to park in or around the oval track.

good article.
Have to agree with everything in this article. I arrived Saturday around 2pm and saw a NHRA guy i recognized directing cars to parking spots. Looking at the track I could tell they were a long way from ready at that time. And it kept spritzing a bit. I was surprised they were able to get a session in. Glad to see the folks that did the hard work getting recognition.

To me (who is use to Gainesville,Bristol, Charlotte) it did not feel like a big national event.

It felt smaller, more intimate, and man are those fences close to the track! It gives quite the rush standing along the fence

Smaller tracks are acceptable. Makes for a more intimate feel. Hey, they can say they sold, out another one….i think SGMP was a sellout on Sunday, although they didn’t announce it.
