Traxxas

The display they have in Houston is beyond impressive. It will be a miracle if I don't walk out of the track today or tomorrow without one of these cars. My kids are going to be all over me the next 2 days.

They have them for sale at the track?? The hobby shops can't get them yet.

Yeah, they had the FC's along with every other RC car they sale at the track and they said they are fully stocked. The price on the FC's was $500.

Ouch.....They actually think the average fan can afford a toy/hobby like this? What are they thinking....lol

These are way cool, but I think they really need to do the nitro powered models as well. I mean, it's a no-brainer...

Let's see, $500 for a toy you'll need to find a place to play with, or a month's groceries? Yep, just don't have that kind of money laying around, and don't think I will for awhile...

Glad they are here, putting money in the sport.

d'kid

$500.00 is just the start...
check out all the other things that go with it.
christmas tree,and timming clocks.

more money needed for them as well.
I would like to get one,but I'd have to buy two of them,so others in the family could race each other.
I do not see that happening anytime soon.

The timing system Traxxas is offering for playing in your drive way or any other place is a deal... I have a timing system for r/c drag racing... that i believe is one of the cheaper.. till traxxas's verion of one.... cost around $3000 new.. there are others that are even more by Port-A-Tree and others... so its realy not that bad......

but i want to offer a observation i had today....and a bit of a conversation i had with some r/c drag racers and some "Big Car" drag racers including their kids in Jr's today at Rockingham Dragway during the IHRA Summit Series event...

My Local r/c drag club .. the Carolina Model Drag Series... find us on facebook (shameless plug... =)... ran today during the IHRA Sportsman event in front of a pretty big crowd.. maybe a bit less than 4k people 9and i'm guessing)... mostly racers.... at one point we had close to 50 people at one time watching..which amazed me since most were in driving suits.. from kids to adults.. and during some down times on the big strip we had a couple IHRA officials checking us out and taking pics... not a joke .. not a lie.. i heard two kids tell their parents i want one of those... and the kids said its ok if we get rid of the (Jr) Dragster....lol to moms reply it does look safer...lol

We had several big car racers come talk to our r/c racers about their cars and asked for information on the cars and where to get them... several leaned toward our electric top fuel cars running 132 ft in 1.28 sec @ 104 mph... but the majority of them asked about the TRAXXAS/JFR cars... and we explained that that was a great kit to get into r/c drag racing.. explained how we had national events across the country.. and many clubs like ours were out there racing.. to say our race was a huge success in front of this group would be an understatement.....

Now what i determined is this...IMO... if no one screws up this deal.. the NHRA has been given a gift... the future of drag racing has been given a gift.... everyone asks every day on a forum where are the new drag racing fans coming from?.... TRAXXAS... TRAXXAS.. TRAXXAS.. not to be little the efforts of the other sponsors in drag racing...but Traxxas has opend a door that others have been fighting to get open.... and this deal could realy expand drag racing to a new younger crowd....

Yes i even have an example.. friend of mine i use ot race oval with and realy havent seen in a few years.. came by with his 12 year old son... we had access ot the dragway for the restrooms for our racers and spectators. and the path to the restrooms were right thru the pits... my friends son had to be dragged away from the cars in the pits..... and at the end of the day.. my friend said he would e-mail me for more info on r/c drag racing... and on other drag events at the dragway his son might enjoy.... and...... they both would be racing at our next r/c drag event.. great for us.. and great for drag racng...... we got one new fan...

Good post Billy. Wish I could come race down there with ya. This is normally when I'd be starting my track up for the year also. :(

On the other hand, I don't miss the work one bit! :D

Great post Billy! I must say, while I've been aware of R/C cars forever, and of course raced slot cars as a kid, Traxxas has me looking at buying a couple cars and the timing system, I think they're great. As far as kids go, this is really huge. Yeah they're not cheap. BUT, neither are Playstations and iPads and iPhones and on and on and alot of things that are part of life nowadays. I think Traxxas coming on board is huge.

When I asked my oldest son what his favorite part of the race was yesterday, his response was driving the Traxxas car at the display and watching the demonstration just before the last Fuel session. So much for going there for the racing . Kids.......

Man 500.00 for a toy car or 500.00 for something that goes pop pop.
The toy will decrease in value and the other should retain its value.
Decisions decisions

Paul.. i showed up at 7:30 am by myself.. brought my bribe.. a biscut and a drink to one of my buddys that works for Earwood at Rockingham and Steve has help me... he used the track blower to clear our area.... and set me up with the VHT for me to spray the track with which by the way.. our area had been dragged with the TRACK tractor and tire set up.. on Thursday for us... by 8:30 am our walls showed up. .we set them up and then i got the timing system up.. practice by 10am.. ran and finshed up at around 5:30 pm... packed up. and sat there for another hour.. just did not want to leave it was a great day...

Best race of the day was in bracket.... a car dialed in at 2.65sec against a car dialed in at 1.29sec the 1.29 car hit a perfect light.. .400.. but broke out by .0002 (yes our system goes out to the 4th diget...lol)

OH.. and my friend e-mailed me at 9am this moring..lol...

sent him a list of any r/c drag companys and parts he will need as well as hobby shops that sell their stuff as well as will be sure to carry the Traxxas kits... most commonly sought out R/C Car Kings..

I walked out with a Bandit VXL, I have a soft spot for my youngest when he gives me the puppy eyes asking for stuff:D. Supposedly it goes 70mph, we will see tomorrow morning when it is charged up. Hopefully this thing is worth it and gives me some entertainment.
