If Courtney is the overwhelmingly winner, then she should be #8.
Why have a fan vote if the majority vote getter doesn't win ??

Why not just put everybodys name in if, as you say, everyone should get a chance.

Everybody had the same chance to earn their way in. They have the first seven spots. For those that didn't they have another chance. The more votes the better the chance. My state has second chance lotto drawings, the more times I enter the better my chances. This way the fans can get involved if they wish, but all the players at least have a shot.

If you don't like it, nobody is making you participate.

And how many fans do you think actually read it? It shouldn't need to be read. I am pretty sure I am not the only one feeling 100% misled.

I did, which is why I did not open a Face book account... You would think traxxas would have rigged it so court was a shoe in....

Just what our sport needs... a stat guy that doesn't read the facts....

That was NOT your point...not 11 posts back it wasn't!

I was using the 2000 election as an example to refute Zappy's remark. He got it, you didn't. Like I said, comprehension is next. And I'll thank you not to tell me what the point of my own words is.

I could give Nikita Koloff's Russian Chain about the rules. The fact the NHRA did something to put a sense of doubt the majority fan favorite Courtney Force wins is quite amazing. But does it matter when FC28 gets the win light in Round 1? Nah. :D

No I don't like it. I do'nt like the format at all. So no, I didn't vote because of the FB thing. Once again nhra has takin something simple and...messed it up.
These "special" races used to mean something, it was the BEST of the BEST, goin at it. Now it's just a - all in - big $$ race. You don't have to preform well, you don't have to win a race, you don't have to be high in points, you don't even have to win a rd.

You just have to show up.

Instead of takin shots at me just think for a minute. Why the hell did they have to make it complicated? The old Technicoat shootout where they had the ceremony on a "lottery" based system, they did waste people's time with a fan vote. The K&N shootout in pro stock they had a fan vote for the eighth spot, and the clear fan vote winner got the eight spot, no lottery. I'm not the only one who's surprised by this now lottery going on tomorrow, i refuse to believe I am the only one. It is misleading, it doesn't say fan vote for lottery, just says fan vote. And leave my book out of it, it's apples to oranges, you proud of the cheap shot?

Ok trying to make it easier to understand.

The Fan vote is much like the draft lottery in the NBA. The worst team gets the most balls in the bin, which gives them the best chance to win the #1 pick and so on down the line.

In this case the fan vote gives the winner the most chances to win the lottery and so on down the line.

What the fan vote did was generate buzz and drive people to the Traxxas site, remember the whole ROI deal we all talk about.

Additionally making it a two step process drives interest in the vote, then again in the lottery.

Now is it a bit messy, yes. Make it a lottery or make it a fan vote. BUT this is their first shot at this and Traxxas has jumped in Drag Racing Full Thro...err with a great Mello feel. Let it play out, I'm sure they will make adjustments for next season.

Afterall it is a bonus race, it really doesn't matter I'm just glad someone stepped up to add these type of races back at Indy

The rules were put in place months ago. Why is this everyone elses problem that you are confused? If you didn't want to bother reading the rules then just wait til Indy and when you watch on ESPN they will tell you who is and isn't in the race.

The comment on the book wasn't made as a cheap shot, it was made in a "Holy crap you can't follow the rules of the sport and its special races, but you're supposed to be putting out an in depth book on the sport?"

Thanks. I second that, it's great that Traxxas brought back the shootouts. The teams need all the money they can get these days.

same principal as the countdown - generates fan buzz leading up to indy
giving fans a points race to pay attention to, and most importantly sheds
some media spotlight on teams not in the top few spots - their sponsors
consider this good ROI.

sorry PJ, had to bring it up ;); :)

I don't think everyone understands exactly what my book is. It's not a rulebook, it's not a history of the sport book, it's a history of stats from 1997-2011 on drivers who qualify under the following:

1. Won A Championship Or Appeared In A Final Round Between 1997-2012 In A Pro Class
2. Have Made At Least One Pass In Their Respective Class Since 2009
3. Have Made At Least One Pass In Their Respective Class From 1997-2012 And Are One Of The Top 50 NHRA Drivers From The 2001 List.

The stats you will find are in-depth and cannot be found in a readable form anywhere on the net unless you spend the hours it takes to compute them all. The interview content is stuff that you will not find anywhere, but I cannot release anything on that.

I did not write a book I am not qualified to write and so anyone trying to compare anything I have EVER said in any of my 1,403 post on Mater to the upcoming book is just waisting time.

I don't know if anyone follows twitter but I created an account just to follow the drag racers closer in the weeks coming into Brainerd... But it has been overwhelmed with "vote for me" tweets ever since the race ended. I'll be glad when the voting is over.

Ya know as I typed that I knew somebody would jump on it, I figured Paul would :)

The difference, this is a for fun race, no points, no championships are harmed. Just because the TV coverage crams it down our throats and insist its exciting doesn't mean that it is actually vreating real buzz outside out it.

No kidding, some of them were silly. Clay Miliken was retweeting every vote. Dozens an hour. It was ridiculous.

I appreciate Traxxas for putting up the big bucks, I think it's great. And in no way do I blame them for the goofy system to determine the 8 cars. They are a toy manufacture, not a racing entity. I believe the recipe was born in Glendora Ca. It has Light/Compton all over it. (imo)

Zappy,
It's called trying to manufacture DRAMA... I do care a team takes home the $100 grand... but I don't care which of the eight teams it is, just that they take home the bucks...
