"The girl lost control of her junior dragster while riding on the track and hit a safety guide employee before going on to strike a concrete wall, the statement reads. The employee, described as a 34-year-old Orlando man, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries while the girl was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said."

Also saw this on Autoweek. Looked at some other news articles that said a JR Dragster can go up to 85 mph. Hope this is not the case for the class that 7 year olds would be in.

7 year olds are capped at 13.90 in the 1/8 mile which is about 45-48 mph. You can certainly go slower, that’s just the cap.Also saw this on Autoweek. Looked at some other news articles that said a JR Dragster can go up to 85 mph. Hope this is not the case for the class that 7 year olds would be in.

Yeah this is a bad deal. I’ve been hearing lots of rumors since the accident happened, and hopefully the full story comes out soon.
Both my boys run JR Dragsters and as you can imagine this one hits pretty hard. A lot of chatter amongst the parents (the moms especially) over the last few days.

Autoweek article says she was making one of her first passes. Wonder how many passes she had actually made before this tragic accident. Getting more details surely will help all you parents who have kids racing.

I’m hearing it was only her 2nd license pass. The first license run is supposed to be 60 feet, bring the car to a stop and shut the engine off. 2nd pass is supposed to be to the 330, safely stop the car, turn the engine off.
Many are thinking the throttle stuck- and although there are 2 different ways for the driver to shut it off, in a panic situation it’s hard to say how well some kids can handle that vs. others being new to the seat.
More details to follow, I’m sure.

This is the second fatality I know of in Jr Dragster. I'm not saying there aren't risks, but nearly every form of activity has it's risks and tragedies. So sad for all involved.

The Australian girl was taking a test run at a junior drag racing event when she crashed into a concrete barrier, passing away the next day at the hospital. The speed she was going hasn’t been released yet but the vehicle was capable of going 60 mph. An investigation is ongoing and the government will be taking a look at the state’s child racing rules."

I lost my best friend at the end of our Jr yr in high school a drunk driver cut through the gas station Billy was working at.
That made a lifelong change for me in my outlook of life.
I raised my 4 kids to do whatever they wanted nonmatter how dangerous it was, short of jumping without a chute lol.
They've raced Quads, Quatermidgets, Motocross, and Go-karts. Along with Wrestling, Football. Yes, I've spent many hrs. at the ER. In fact, the daughter that
raced Motocross spent so much time in ER she has become an Orthopedic Dr. LOL (Can't beat them join them)
That made a lifelong change for me in my outlook of life.
