Top Dragster

Top Dragster is a very cool class. I've seen some wild FEDs run it, as well as 125 in. altereds.

Casner is a bad dude also. Wins quite often in any car he drives.

Cool down isn't an issue, run on Alcohol and it cools itself. If going gas then put the radiator inside the body, it will cool just fine.

At Houston last year they had TD run, took a 6.73 to qualify and some guy in a NOS Dragster ran the first 5 sec. Pass at a 5.98@232! He had already qualified #1 with an 6.02, but that was awesome! I noticed a lot of those TD's ran long cars 270" or longer, didn't see many if any SC cars in there!

Many run both classes!

That wouldn't have been the first, and they don't really want to run under 6.000. Used to be a 5-second run would get the contestant an invitation to leave the property, even during qualifying - they were DQ'd from the event. Now just the run is DQ'd. 6.000 is the quickest a TD is allowed to go.

Interesting read. mid 6's in pretty much the deal I'm looking for, not hurting stuff, we could do that with the BBC I have right now, can you run an injected 650 inch motor in the class?

Larry...you can pretty much run anything you want in Top Dragster with the exception of nitro. Everything from blown big and small blocks to 820+ inch gas burners to nitrous motors of all sizes to turbocharged engines...you name it...even diesels! There are minimum weights associated with each engine combination that are very easy to meet.

The key, as many very quick cars have discovered, is consistency and rapid turnaround time between rounds. Top Dragster at a national or divisional event isn't very "tow with a dually" and "no-cooling system in the race car" friendly. Be prepared to turn the car around in 15-30 minutes at times.

Of course I say that and we have Rob McKinley down here in D4 going rounds at nationals and divisionals with a 6-teen B/AD. But his crew works their butts off between rounds to make it back to the lanes as fast as the rest of the class.

I bet you can count the number of SC cats that can run 6's on one hand!

You must have quite a few fingers then....

I would guess 150 can run in the 6s. Probably 20 can run 6.60 or quicker. I know a few that have run 6.0 at 230 mph.

That is what makes the class interesting. I have run cars that only go 130 mph, and have run cars that go 220 mph. Fun at the finish line.
