What's with the cut offs of qualifiers being at 12 on NHRA.com ?
Did I miss something ?
They have all pro classes from 13 on as "not qualified".......!?
Is NHRA.com going to NASCAR's end of the year "Race-to-the-Chase"
format or just the typical "technical issues" ?

Only the top 12 are locked in on the first day. They are just trying to create excitment.

Those below the line start over today - the top twelve are not locked in, but they get to keep their times. It's supposed to give those with bad runs on Friday a chance to qualify on Saturday and avoid the "Friday night sets the field syndrome."

.....the old saying "If it aint broke, don't fix it" comes to mind !!

I kinda' like the new deal personally. Ever since the inception of the Friday night stuff, the show for the fans has been great, but the fact of the matter is, there wasn't a lot of moving around or bumping in for the rest of qualifying, which made that part of the show weak in my opinion.

Hey, are you the infamous Chef Dale Johnson? Your avatar sure looks familiar. ;) Where ya been? NHRA made this change right before the first race of the season to have only the top 12 qualifiers on Friday to be locked in (sorta) and then that leaves 4 spots open to get in on Saturday as the 13-whatever qualifiers on Friday have their times thrown out. Might blow for some teams if they were in spot 13-16 on Friday based on a 1st sesssion qualifying lap and then blew their car up in the 2nd Friday session and couldn't get a car back together in time for Saturday qualifying but could have for Sunday. If there time had held up based on the old Top 16 get in system, but not now, then I could see someone being pissed. Probably not gonna be a common occurance though. So far the ONLY race where the 12 top qualifiers has been used is Pomona as both Phoenix and Gainesville had WET STUFF on Friday qualifying days and NOBODY got to run on Friday at those two events so Houston will only be the 2nd time we see this scenario play out. It confused alot of us, me included, when I read the Friday qualifying results on Saturday morning of the Pomona race...and a few threads were posted about it. We'll see.
