Nasty neighbors suck!! Especially if you try and be civil about your activities.
Sometimes the nasty ones take your attempts to be cooperative as a sign of weakness. From there they try and bully you and call the cops on a whim. When that crap happens I just do my best to keep my activities to a minimum and give them a polite F/U by making friendly with the cops when they do show up.
I've found most cops are sympathetic if you're not being abusive. The cops usually realize they've got a PITA neighbor that isn't going to be happy no matter what lengths you go to be neighborly.
