Tony Schumacher moving to Austin, TX?

Austin has a lot going for it, but it has two issues city planners are having a tough time dealing with .... East/West traffic flow and water. Other than that it is dang nice.
If your real estate ownership is somewhat in line with your income, the property taxes in Texas are not that bad. But you get in a brand new, highly leveraged neighborhood ... and they can be.
We are from Houston and racing in Norwalk this weekend, I was hoping to ask Tony what caused his decision to move.

I live about 50 miles south of Austin. There are still lots of areas you can get into relatively cheap if you avoid the "in" areas. Hill country land has really become a rich guys place. Wish I'd bought a bunch of it up 30 yrs ago.

Just the weather alone would prevent me from moving to Austin. At least, full time. (Winters would definitely be preferable vs. the drizzle we have in the Northwest but I would not enjoy the summer heat.)

I lived back in Kentucky for a job in 2012/13 ... The winter KILLED me. I am back in Vegas now ... I want no part of any winter ever again.

While the tax dollars are fairly even for someone that makes an average income, as you make more money the benefit of no state income tax becomes more evident.
I spent 15 years in CT and MD. There is no way I will ever go back to a part of the country that still has piles of snow in the mall parking lots in June. The other benefit of Texas is less government intrusion, if you care about things like that.

Sorry to report that all in Texas is much cheaper - across all measures than Illinois when it comes to taxes. Almost 50% cheaper. Even when you consider all
other taxes in balance Texas is much cheaper. Do take into consideration that Austin is rapidly becoming the beachhead of the left from California who have
decimated that state and have the ability to move to other states and sow ruin. Erect a wall. Quickly.

Here in Florida many residents are finding it's cheaper to live in Georgia then it is here.
Brand New homes of equal size are in the $200,000 dollars range instead of the $300 to 350 range and taxes are also better.
Many teachers leave Florida after teaching here for 10 years to make more money in their first year teaching in GA.
The entire area north of Atlanta is growing very fast.

No chit, I live that on a daily basis. Latest law here since the last year, you have to bring your own grocery bags when you shop in the city of Austin. I kid you not................. no kidding, bring your own bags or they will sell you a cloth bag, no paper or plastic. I always tell them that I'm not buying their stupid bags, and to just throw the groceries back in the cart and I'll just bag them in my trunk. They have no clue what to think.
I saw a T Shirt recently, "Austin, where you can look out in any direction and see Texas"

Decimated? Wow. Someone should tell California. They're still considered the 8th largest economy in the world, so if that's decimation, please, give me some of that.
Not for nothin'. If you must form a political "beachhead", taking the capital would be a great start.

Austin is a wonderful city-high tech, great food, schools, entertainment, and since they already have an F1 track that Paul DeJoria is a part of, wouldn't be surprised if a drag strip joins it. The only thing is that one of my Austin friends told me that you NYers keep moving here, driving up real estate prices.
