Timing light issues... again

To me it was clear that Nobile's car left first.I don't buy into the fact that even if KJ had deep staged he would have triggered a red light by that much.
NHRA has a problem and they should have made both re run the race.
I will say that Kurt Johnson was very diplomatic in his respnse on TV.Of course he isn't going to risk a fine or worse,but again he was diplomatic.
And I agree, KJ got screwed on this one.

Right there is the part Page either forgot about, or didn't understand. Myself, I had to ponder it for a moment, because I'm thinking, well, Nobile was first to the stripe...if Johnson had been given a legit light, he would have lost anyway....and then I remembered Nobile's -.006. So, no, Johnson wouldn't have lost.

Indeed possible...but Nobile cuts it razor thin anyway, and he's redlighted a bunch of times in the past. He's MUCH better this year, tho, as his record reflects.
Graham Light is right about one thing - unless a fan flips a grenade onto the starting line as the cars are staging, there's not gonna be a rerun....unless you're a Harley rider....oh, hell, did I say that?

This has always been my understanding of it....it sits out in front of the stage beam (toward the finish line) and if the wheel hits the guard beam it triggers the clock to start even if the stage and prestige beams still see the car as there. It's to "guard" against a low slung car from getting lots of roll out (and effectively a head start) by keeping the stage beam lit.

Which is EXACTLY why the race should've been re-run. Who cares about the delay if the goal is to get it right? The whole, TV coverage isn't "official" data or whatever he said was silly. Go tell that to Steve Johnson. You'd think the NHRA would've learned from that debacle.
But KJ doesn't have any major sponsors bringing money to NHRA & Vince does, so why risk delaying the Pro Stock cars a couple hours and causing a major sponsor to lose a race he had previously won?
I apologize for my cynicism, but NHRA's blatant sucking up to the corporate sponsors is ridiculous. And I love Vinnie Nobile, don't misunderstand me - it's not his fault. And I'm normally more polite, but listening to Graham Light explain his decisions usually sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher.

It definitely should have been a re-run, especially after hearing Graham Light's wishy washy explanation. He had no clue about what happened, but that was enough in his mind. It costs Kurt potentially 20 points, and he was knocking on the door of 10th place going in to the race.

This was not a "Force in Vegas" both left before the tree was activated deal
Am I correct? If so, how could it possibly be a win for Nobile?

I don't know if this made the TV but -
Saturday in Chicago one of the earlier runs had an error in timing- not sure if it was the pros or some sportsman run. Anyway, after an investigation they found a spider nesting inside the cone had tripped the beam.
I wonder if a big enough mosquito or horsefly can trip the 3rd beam. No system is perfect.
Odd though that they didn't make them run again. From the re-play I recall that both the pre stage and stage beam went out simultaneously for KJ. I don't know how the tree works technically, but it might be a clue as to what happened.
