The General Joins DSR

It will be interesting to see what he could do with a funny car since the majority of his success is with Top Fuel.

I agree Bob.

Yo! Mr Kernan! After Tim and Kim get some rounds under their belt, you'll have to track them down and get their insights as how how diffferent/same the two types of cars are.:)

They are no strangers to Funny Cars.

Capps will certainly benefit in no time. Look for that car to do well......soon.

Yeah he was with Bazemore but still is not a funny car guy! I will like to see the results but I don't think he will do well right away after all the Ace and Medlen ain't bad either and there is going to be a learning curve.

For Capps sake I hope they do he deserves a fast car!

ace, medlen, richards......
a certain irony with multi-car teams.......'we can share data'
don't see it applying to the napa car.

I have an opinion that I'm sure will not be popular, but I think it's something we should all consider.

I'm not too hot on teams whom are struggling that go and pull old blood out of retirement. I thinks it's the same as saying, "I want to make the newest and most advanced product, but I want to hire a guy from 50 years ago to make it for me". What I mean by this is, what's wrong with new blood?! How is the new blood ever going to learn and become great if they keep getting replaced by old blood...isn't it supposed to be the other way around...new blood for old blood?!

Nothing against Tim Richards, and his capabilities, but he is almost 70 years old and has been retired for almost three years now. What could he possibly bring to the NAPA team that they already haven't tried. Ace & Medlen...are no slouches, if they couldn't do it.....then how is Tim Richards going to?

Anyhow, I think I made my point. I welcome respectful and intelligent comments. :)

They have new pipe (new for Capps anyway), so the job may be easier now. If Ace and Medlin couldn't get the other car to run, likely no one can.

Sometimes change is made just for change, if that makes any sense. The two previous tuners are great on their own, I think Tim brings change of some sort, but I guess the results are what matters. If it doesn't turn around, expect more change.

I hear what you are saying but it hasn't advanced as far as you think and Tim is very sharp and understands how to tune a car.

Just because he was retired doesn't mean he wasn't keeping tabs on any new technology.
The added plus is you are getting two for one because Kim can tune a car also.
Don made a very good move I will love to see what Tim and Kim come up with knowing that they get to peek at what the other tuners are doing it should make for a short learning curve.

“When you’ve been around the sport as long as we have,” said Tim, “all the years start to run together and the physical and mental stress takes its toll. Kim has been working in this sport full time since 1982 and I’ve been in the sport maybe 10 years more than that. The sport consumes you but that’s what is required to be successful, and we won’t continue in the sport without a 100 percent commitment. There’s no way to shortcut the job. For us it’s all or nothing. We’re worn out and it’s time to stop.

“I’ll be 65 in January and I don’t want to keep working until I’m 70 or 75. Kim and I want to enjoy life and do some of the things we dream about.”

Kim, who has many responsibilities on the race car says the years have taken a physical toll.

You can only work in the garden or sit on the front porch swing so long. Racing never leaves you. It's in your blood...and after being a player like they were not being a part of it can haunt you.

Good luck to the NAPA team including Ron Capps, Tim and Kim and the entire NAPA crew.
