Tennis!

Forrest Lucas owns MAVTV. I have to believe he'd take NHRA and celebrate the heck out of it if he had it. But, it's not in as many homes as ESPN, certainly, and it's not in HD on DirectTV. But I'm betting the right package could change a bunch of that...
Forrest Lucas has signed up to fund just about everything NHRA has to offer. As of today, even the Pro Mods. Do we not think that if Lucas wanted NHRA on Mav TV, it would already be a done deal? Passion can sometimes cloud judgement, NHRA is not that big a deal in the overall motorsports world, let alone the sports world. Again, we are passionate.

And for those that think Fox Sports 1, or NBC, or CBS sports networks would have interest ... you couldn't be more wrong. Those networks are owned by mainstream Media corporations. Stick and Ball sports plus NASCAR will always be the norm. Why can't we accept what we have, offer constructive improvement ideas and not continually bash the current provider and the NHRA itself. It is counter productive.

I get the Mater passion, hell I am passionate as much as the next. However, what floors me is how angry people here get when the mainstream doesn't see it the Mater way. We are selfish, its OK ... but the total number of gross viewers is too small to provide any solid revenue to a TV network. We are a niche sport. Whether we agree or not, NASCAR is now mainstream. Why do you think the suits at NBC went out on a limb for 10 years and $8.2 Billion for 1/2 the nascar schedule plus Fox renewed for the first half and $4 Billion? NBC will use all of its network power to broadcast all of Nascar's series ... NASCAR K&N Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Toyota (Mexico) Series, the NASCAR Hall of Fame induction ceremony and NASCAR’s season-ending banquets. NBC has even been granted Spanish-language rights. All this during a supposed tough economy and a time where Nascar TV ratings and attendance are down. It's all about value to the network from the product.

Forrest has probably approached NHRA, and I'm guessing they rebuffed him because of their firm belief that the only "real" sports in the world are on ESPN. My suggestion is that be re-thought.

As for NBCsports and CBSsports, they have both picked up the PowerBlock shows from Spike, so to insinuate that don't have a broader interest in motorsports is not accurate. If those aren't niche auto-related properties, I don't know what are.

Yeah, I hear you Chris. But there are tons of guys working on restoration projects, vehicle upgrades, overhauls, etc. Power Block has a lot of stuff that appeals to the average Joe. Most of those are not NHRA fans either. Lots of "car guys" could care a less about drag racing. I know a lot of guys in several local Hot Rod / Street Rod clubs, they think NHRA is dull and would not ever consider going to a drag race. I am sure there are exceptions.

When NHRA first started, it has a car club division and then it was dropped. Dunno why, but I'll find out.

Most of the car clubs back in the day were more about fast cars and drag racing than street rods. Not that they didn't do some custom work on the bodies but most attention was spent on what was under the hood.

I'm in the minority here but I'd rather see it stay on ESPN since it's on most people's standard cable line up. I can tell you I don't have access to FS2 or MAV-TV so that would be the end of me watching NHRA. I don't have the option of adding those two to my current Xfinity line up even if I wanted to - I don't since the $$$ is outrageous now. I'm not out in BFE either, 40 mins NW of Philly.

yesterday there was an article on another drag racing website mentioning lucas oil to be new sponsor of nhra
pro mod series......later yesterday and today i can not find the same article.
if this is true; wonder if this could be an in road for mav tv and nhra?

Hence why IHRA will be on MAVTV.

Plus Dave Reiff did have some time on CBSSports doing the World of Outlaws shows. NBC has got on a bigger racing Kick again as well by in 2015 getting NASCAR back. All 3 Stations have a shot at getting NHRA, provided if NHRA doesn't extend the contract w/ESPN. When does NHRA's Current contract expire w/ESPN Again?

The major networks like ABC, CBS and NBC don't want NHRA no matter how much NHRA pays. No viewers means no commercial income from that show and lowers what they can charge for other time blocks.

I guess you might as well go with 1 option that everyone else is doing...LIVE CAMS Online.
