Team Thompson Qualifies No. 1 at Vegas Regional (1 Viewer)

(Las Vegas) Clint Thompson qualified on the pole at the Las Vegas Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Regional. This was especially gratifying considering there were sixteen top alcohol funny car qualifying for an eight car field. A lot of notable teams didn’t even make the cut. Clint stopped the clock with a dazzling 5.61 at 256 MPH blast.

In round one, Clint raced Steve Gasparrelli whom everyone knows is a contender that can’t be taken lightly. Gasparrelli qualified eighth with a 5.69. At the hit, Clint was out of the gate first with a substantial starting line advantage and gained momentum all the was to the finish line. Gasparrelli made it interesting but it was all Clint Thompson at both ends of the track. Clint rang up another 5.61 at 257 MPH to down Gasparrelli’s 5.67 at 256 MPH.

In the semi finals, Clint took on another familiar opponent, Doug Gordon. As the lights came down it was once again Clint out of the box first but then he began to blaze the tires as he lost traction. Gordon was able to grab the lead and take the stripe but destroyed the engine in the process.

The good news is that Team Thompson will have another good shot at a win next week when the team return for the Summit Racing NHRA Nationals.
