Thompson Makes Final Round Appearance in Mission (1 Viewer)

Clint Thompson made a final round appearance at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event known as the Lordco BC Nationals held in Mission Canada over the Memorial Day weekend.

Thompson qualified on the pole with a blistering 5.61 at 256 MPH to lead the six car field. In the first round Thompson took on number six qualifier John Evanchuk. At the hit it was Thompson out of the gate first with a 0.085 reaction time to Evanchuk’s 0.118. Thompson’s better reaction time paid off in spades as both cars ran nearly identical numbers. At the stripe it was Thompson scoring the win with a 5.726 at 254 to Evanchuk’s quicker but losing 5.720 at 253 MPH.

As the number one qualifier in the short field Thompson earned the semi-final bye run to advance to the final round. Using it as a rare chance to test during eliminations Thompson tried to take advantage of the exceptional air conditions and go for a new track record. Unfortunately, the track was not up to the task as Thompson got out of shape on the run and lifted.

In the final round Thompson faced California hitter Steve Gasparrelli who sent Brian Hough packing in the second round. After a lengthy track clean up on the starting line both racers were more than ready to square off for the Lordco BC Nationals title. At the hit it was Gasparrelli out first with an 0.084 reaction time to Thompson’s 0.100. Unfortunately for Thompson, he spins the tires right at the hit while Gasparrelli made a clean pass to claim the victory. Gasparrelli stopped the clock with a 5.71 at 255 MPH to Thompson’s 7.01 at 152 MPH.
