I think the well funded Grays need to have a sit down with Tanner and give his 18 yr old A$$ a rude awaking. Dude, You are Now in the spotlight and if you want to throw a temper tantrum because you don't get your way...well...go work at Walmart Bitch!

You guys say you don't want corporate robots, then complain when a guy shows genuine emotion. Here's what I know,
The car jumped out of high gear, he thought it was his fault (he told me that), he was pissed because he felt like he let the team down, so he took a cool down walk before facing anybody.

I know that the most mad I have ever been is when I lost because I screwed up. If I do my job and somebody does it better, then no problem, I will congratulate the winner and try harder next time, but when my team loses because of my mistake, I HATE THAT! And I want the other people on my team to hate it as well, I think that makes us all try harder not to be the one who lets the team down.

Here's something else I know, the transmission popping out of gear is rare, but not the driver's fault, and not that it would happen, but if I needed a driver I would hire Tanner, he has skill, ability and passion, I would want my driver to have that.

As always, Just My Opinion,
Alan

Give a guy (young guy, old guy, any competitor) a chance to clear the adrenalin out of their system ... I don't think you act like yourself for a few minutes once you get properly (and consistently) amped for a run .... crew chiefs generally go through the same thing and they are just standing there at the line ... but you see a fair amount of chirping there too. I've got no issue with Tanner. Is it perfect, no ... is it a big deal ... heck no. I admit I do get a big kick out of watching a number of the drivers after their runs. I would hate for them to be corporate machines at the other end ... particularly the ones that don't have to be! (Gray, DeJoria, Torrence .... hope I didn't misspell all of these!)

It's interesting to see this wrinkle in live TV .... although I'll have to admit I felt like the pro stock bike big end stuff on Saturday was fabricated (Eddie and Angel)

I think the walk back to the pits was the best thing he could have done, walk off some of that adrenalin.

You guys want interesting live TV, Google "aj is pissed" and watch that video, and then remember that this was televised live in 1991. I distinctly remember watching this. My wife was like "My goodness, such language!!" and I was sitting there laughing my butt off.

Thanks Alan, they complain when there robots and now when they show emotion, I think some people think they are showing everyone how sharp they are when they jump somebody just to complain, not impressed here

If you don't like robotic interviews you should accept someone throwing a tantrum. Why is that?

I lost respect for him. Very unprofessional, childlike temper tantrum. Walking back to his pit is one thing but, look at how he completely dised his crew when the came up on the golf cart. He lost on a holeshot, get over it, it happens, don't blame yer crew. They gave you the quicker car that rd. you got treed.

I'll address that from my own personal standpoint;

What I like to see in a candid interview is something that's rooted in rivalry. When the guys and gals get talking back and forth and the smack talk after a run. To me, there's a big difference between that and what was nothing less than throwing a tantrum. Does he have talent? Oh, hell yes he does! He has probably adapted to the seat of a Pro Stocker as quickly as I've ever seen in the 40 or so years I've been watching this sport, and in particular, this class. So when I see a youngster like this come along with loads of talent, I just hate to see him stack the deck against him/herself in an already critical world and make it easy to be critical. He has an opportunity that most of us that have ever driven down a dragstrip could only dream of, with virtually no worry of the long-term stability of the program as long as he wants to do it.

Act like you've been there before, in victory AND defeat.

There are many different opinions, and I'm simply sharing mine.

Michael, I didn't see it as a tantrum, he was mad at himself, he certainly wasn't casting the blame anywhere else.

Paul, Yes, it was technically a holeshot loss, but that's not really the story. He was WAY out in front when the car came out of gear. He thought that was his fault. He was in no way blaming the crew, he felt like he let them down. Every racer I know when they believe they have the other guy covered doesn't push the tree. Why take a chance going red?

Sean, I agree with most of what you said. All but the tantrum part. In my mind a tantrum is screaming and holding your breath because you didn't get ice cream. I know that when I let my team down and I'm mad at myself, you need to give me a couple of minutes before I want to talk to anyone about it.

What I'm trying to say is, I understand what he did and I'm OK with it. That doesn't mean everybody has to be.

A very wise man once told me that perception is reality, and he was talking about me at the time and how I conducted myself in certain situations.
I was able to step back and look at myself and realize I needed to change how I did things and how I said them.

Now with Tanner, some people think he has a anger/attitude issue. Some don't.
I kind of see it a little of both depending on how you look at it.

Personally, I am just not a fan of his, and I will let how he conducts himself from here on out change my mind if needed. (I am a big fan of his grandfather and dad)

My advice to Tanner if you find yourself in the same situation again, don't get out of the car.
Just shake your head no if someone, like a reporter asks you a question.
Then after you calm down, go talk to that reporter and answer their questions.

Some people might really develop some respect for your space, and give you a chance.

Also, don't give your competition a chance to get in your head...

I was referring to it as a tantrum because that was how it was addressed here. I can see the argument.
It annoys me that the NHRA feels the need to hurry and switch cameras to catch the end of someone throwing their helmet, gloves etc. Drivers know the cameras are around but when they are seemingly alone and don't know a camera is zooming in on them they probably are not acting as they would if it were in front of them. Without the facts most would assume he was just a sore loser.
My opinion doesn't matter but my son is roughly his age and I would not be happy with him if he was shown on tv acting like that.

This thread is why the cameras make sure to catch those moments. Nobody is talking about who won the race. Check out he main threads since the race. Tanner, Angelle and Eddie, Tricky Rickie, Steve Torrence trash talk and Alexia's F-gate. Yeah it sucks if/when the coverage over does it but people do fall for the drama beyond the finish line.

I have never understood why fans get so turned on by this kind of drama...but then when something truly amazing happens it seems like it goes right over their head and they are quiet as a dead mouse.:)

Eugene, I guess this is why Street Outlaws gets more ratings than real race coverage. It's a brave new world! I can't wait for this fall's Real Housewives of Drag Racing! :D

True dat. Hell, Hillary Will had to actually practice making coherent sentences and figuring out what to say to the camera just after she wriggled her torso up and stood up in the cage of her top fueler after pulling off her helmet and headsock.

And talk about adrenaline - I work in the Penalty Box at college hockey games.... ohhhh you should HEAR, see and smell what goes on in there. Yes, It's all cordial smiles, gentlemanly handshakes and friendly conversation LOLOL
