When the Durachrome Bug was first built, it was legally an AA/FA. They built version 2 & it was AA/FC. Still drove like a fuel altered. There is a VW Bug funny car that runs at Santa Pod in England that seems pretty stable & I think it's faster than the Bug. They do make cool looking funny cars.

Gary Cornwall for a period of time drove the 'Battleborn' dragster. 'Battleborn' Top Fuel dragster was owned by Ed Wilson out of Reno, Nevada. Other drivers of the car included Gary Ormsby and Jim Herbert.

I figured anybody who had a car called "Battleborn" would be from Nevada, it is the state motto.

Gary was driving the Battleborn car and on one run he had a parachute failure went into the sand and when he hit the net, the net went over the car and the bottom rope took of the tip of his nose. Gary was a great diver and a great guy.

Trivia: Who was the last driver to make a run at Lions? Jeb Allen, lost to Carl Olson in the Top Fuel Final. Jeb has gone down in history as The Last Driver At Lions.

I was with my backup starter Bill Kee we were pulled down the track buy the intoxicated qualifiers car club members the full quarter mile over seventy miles per hour in a (FULL) out house. Bill has passed away so I now hold the land speed record in a SHIT HOUSE. a proud moment in drag racing
PS: I have driven some out houses in my years but that one was a REAL out house. LOL

The "no ID" car. Noticed it's painted orange so am kinda wondering if it was a Warren-Coburn-Miller car. Altho I never remember W-C-M running a 4 hole injector & scoop. I feel I should know that car with the white headers.... Used to be you knew who was who cuz one car had a blue anodized injector scoop and another had white headers or what have you. No names on the car that you could see cuz they didn't want the extra weight of a full body.

The Wedge!!! My all time favorite T/F car. Just loved the design. Saw that car at OCIR, big race with T/F & F/C. Snake raced Rick Ramsey who won on a hole shot & both ran 6.43, which tied the all time best back then. Ramsey in the front motor Calif Charger.

Was looking at the photo of Bob Pickett. I read somewhere that the F/C's of the day had the body mounted so the front end was lower. As the car went down the track & tires grew, the body itself acted like a wing. Also remember a story of Garlits at the top end, watching a F/C go thru the oil dry powder & realizing how much downforce the bodies had. That inspired him to come up with some designs, like the canopy car with the streamlined nose piece & little wheels. Always interesting to me to read about stuff like that, cuz I'm kind of a trivia nut.

Phil Soars was from Hawaii. He ran a T/G dragster at Fernando, Lions, etc, called The Punkey Kid (gotta be an Hawaiian name). Blown Chrysler on gas, had a polka dot paint scheme. Later went to Top Fuel. Roger, I bet you raced him a few times.

I wonder who came up with the Canard wings? I've seen them ahead of the engine (like in the photo) & under the headers. Some of the early 1971 back motor cars had canards (no wing yet) in front of the slicks. Seems to me that the canards in front of the motor were best place (IMO), cuz they complimented the downforce from the headers. Would love to hear some input on this. Input, need input....
