Summit Racing Jason Line NHRA Race Report: Unusual Circumstance Curtails Line’s Day i (1 Viewer)

Jason Line came into Sunday’s final eliminations of the O’Reilly Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals in Ennis, TX confident about his chances for a strong showing. After all, his Summit Racing Pontiac had been among the quickest and most consistent cars in the Pro Stock category, earning the 2006 champion the third starting position. He continued his strong showing in the opening round, using the second-quickest pass of the round at 6.579-seconds to defeat veteran Warren Johnson.

However, as Line prepared to race fellow Countdown to One playoff contender Greg Stanfield, in the second round he experienced difficulty performing his pre-run burnout, and backed up into the water box to start over. Although he was able to successfully complete the procedure, the process took him over the starting line for a second time, which was in violation of an NHRA regulation. As a result, the KB Racing entry was disqualified, awarding the automatic win to his opponent. Naturally disappointed by the unusual circumstance of his premature exit, Line took full responsibility and immediately focused on making amends at the next race in Reading.

“The bottom line is that I made a mistake during the burnout, and it cost us a chance at the win,” said Line. “I had a great Summit Racing Pontiac today, and really felt we had a shot at the win, but we unfortunately got tripped up in the second round. There’s nothing we can do to change it, so we’re just going to pick up and move forward.

“The good news is that our team still had a decent day with my teammate Greg Anderson winning the race, and we leave here knowing we have two great Summit Racing Pontiacs. We’ll put today behind us, and go to Reading ready to do whatever it takes to win.”
