Line’s Runner-Up Finish in Sonoma Secures NHRA Playoff Berth

Event: 23rd annual Fram Autolite Nationals
Location: Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, CA
Day/Date: Sunday, July 18, 2010

Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Jason Line had a very productive day on Sunday, scoring a runner-up finish at the Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma, CA. Starting from the fifth position, he made three consecutive runs in the 6.5-second range, including the quickest time in two of the first three rounds to eliminate veterans V. Gaines, Greg Stanfield and Kurt Johnson and advance to the 47th final round of his Pro Stock career, where he would square off against rival Jeg Coughlin.

Once again, Line made a solid run, covering the quarter-mile in 6.602-seconds with a top speed of 209.39 mph. Unfortunately, this game effort fell just shy of successfully defending his win at this event from a year ago, as his opponent used a 6.590-second, 209.52 mph run to score the narrow victory. Despite the initial disappointment, Line was encouraged by his team’s showing, a performance that earned the 2006 champion a spot in the NHRA’s championship playoff, the Countdown to One, which will begin at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis on Labor Day weekend.

“All in all, our Summit Racing team had a pretty good day today,” said Line.
“Certainly we would have preferred to leave here with the trophy, but we made some decent runs and made it all the way to the final, where we just slipped up. We were a little light on the clutch, and I didn’t do a very good job on the starting line. So even though it could have been a great day, I’m not about to complain, because we continue to move forward.

“We were able to learn some things and get a little healthier, all of which will
help us in the long run. Best of all, we showed we had the ability to run with the absolute best in the class, which is certainly encouraging, because it shows the progress we’re making.

“On top of everything else, we were able to secure our spot in the Countdown. It’s not that we were ever really worried that we weren’t going to make it, but it’s still nice to get it out of the way. If you think about it, a KB Racing car has now been in the last three finals and won twice, which is a record many of our competitors wouldn’t mind having. So, all in all, today was a good day.”
