Stivers finishes NHRA Pro Mod season in Top Ten (1 Viewer)

Rick Stivers, driver of the Trane Air
Conditioning Pro Mod, claimed a top-ten championship position in the 2010
NHRA Pro Mod season with a quarterfinal finish at the NHRA Las Vegas
Nationals.

Stivers drove the Trane Stratus into the number ten championship position
with his victory over Ed Hoover in the first round of eliminations at Vegas.
Stivers qualified No. 4 with a 5.950-second pass, and delivered a 5.959
against Hoover's 6.001 in round one.

In round two, Stivers faced Troy Coughlin. At the start, Stivers and
Coughlin were nearly even, and the two raced side-by-side until the finish,
where Coughlin crossed just four feet - less than half a car-length -- in
front of Stivers, ending his season. At the stripe, it was Coughlin: 6.000,
Stivers: 6.008.

"We had a really good car here in Vegas, and that round with Troy just got
away from me. I had him beat, but I let him go at the end. It's
disappointing to lose by a nose, but that's drag racing."

"In all, the season wasn't nearly as good as I had wanted, but, considering
the way things started for me in February, I'm happy to have made the top
ten," Stivers said.

By the numbers, Stivers' best event of the season was in Atlanta, where he
made a semifinal finish after qualifying fourth. He qualified No. 4 three
times, and in the top-half of the field five out of nine times. He missed
the first event at Gainesville after enduring emergency surgery to remove
cancerous polyps found during a routine screening.

In addition to the one semifinal finish, he had four quarterfinal finishes,
three first-round exits, and one DNQ. He ended the season with a total of
428 points, passing two other drivers with his Vegas performance to finish
number 10.

"I have to thank Trane for all their support this season. They have been
encouraging the entire time, and I think that together we've proven, once
again, that even with my rocky start, it's hard to stop a Trane," Stivers
said.
