Stanfield hopes to step up with backup motor at NW Nationals (1 Viewer)

KENT, Wash. – One more stop – Friday through Sunday at Pacific Raceways near Seattle for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Northwest Nationals – and NHRA’s grueling three-race Western Swing will be history.

For Greg Stanfield and the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP Pro Stock team, the event provides another opportunity to earn Full Throttle Series points before the regular season concludes on Labor Day. He is sixth (808 points), only 45 out of fourth place. The top 10 drivers in each pro category advance to the six-race Countdown to the Championship that begins at Concord, N.C., Sept. 16-18.

“We will be using our backup engine at Seattle,” said crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia. “We hurt the good one last weekend, but we’ll be okay. The other motor was pretty good on race day.”

Stanfield advanced to the quarterfinals Sunday at Sonoma, Calif. The quick turnaround time between events prevented the team from sending the good engine to his Bossier City, La. shop for repairs. He will have time to work on the team’s power plants. The next event is at Brainerd, Minn., Aug. 19-21.
