Even though he lost in the second round of Sunday’s NHRA Countdown to the Championship series opener at Charlotte, Greg Stanfield was able to take one step forward in the Full Throttle Series Pro Stock standings.

However, he also took a few steps back in the process. He put the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP into seventh place with 2,071 points, but he fell farther behind pacesetters Jason Line and Greg Anderson in points.

So, he was back in his engine shop Monday and on Thursday said he made some progress. “We hope to turn things around,” he reported. “I don't think we can go any slower. We worked on the motor and ran it on the dyno(mometer). It says that we have good power. Maybe we have a problem somewhere in the car.”

Stanfield and crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia will be looking for answers Friday when qualifying begins for the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, near Dallas. It is the second of six playoff races.
