Jeff,

Those were the days that you could actually tell what the cars were...lol
At least we have the memories!!

Sherm,

That King and Marshall car was just ahead of it's time...lol
and yes, it was outlawed by NHRA at the time.

I hope everyone enjoys the pics, I only wish I hadn't lost all most files so many years ago!!!

Great photos of the cars at Connecticut Dragway. Send more!

Bruce Larson USA1, Malcom Durham Strip Blazers, Super Twister, Soul Twister, Light My Fire Corvette, Color Me Gone, Tickle Me Pink, Eastern Raider, Roman Rat Nova, Racci and Wise Vega, was always at these events

Broadway Freddie was at Connecticut Dragway one or two times from my notes. Saw him in his Camaro funny car.

Track's last season was 1985 and was sold one week before opening day 1986.

Thanks
Paul Weiss

And i figured they were from Jon Graves + Clay Taylor. :)

Here's one of your pics of an interesting car. The Rail-spliter as it was called. I doubt it was really NHRA legal due to the wheelbase-used to match race dragsters with it.

Trivia time--who did the 1st 200mph pass?

from what I recall it was not legal , because it was too narrow.

as jan landers used to call it - the skinny mini duster

there it is - the plumbers pipe 'guardrail' !
and dave berube!

awesome man.

thank you

Ah Yes, that old pipe guardrail, I remember it well...lol
Dave Berube too, yup those were the good old days!!

Bob, where in FL are you?

I stand corrected-that sounds better.
A few more regulars I remember: Boston Shaker ( I have/had 2 blower belts off it from 2 different occasions) Purple Magic-Rolling Stoned -Black Magic-Nor'easter-Custom body Charger.
I used to ride my bicycle up to Buckley Hill rd. + watch the haulers go by to try to tell who was showing up. Back then haulers were all duallie pick ups hauling blank white trailers-you had to look at the lisc. plate--and almost EVERY ONE would have a different state between truck + trailer--and neither one from where they were from!:p

I hope this isn't considered threadjacking, but on topic of old drag racing pics. Someone posted this link on the HAMB board & a friend passed it on to me. Most of the pics on this album are from our defunct local strip, Springfield-Ozark Dragway {actual location- Ozark, Mo.}. The pictures are hosted on photobucket.com. Does anyone know how to contact the owner of these pics through Photobucket? Also, if by any stroke of a chance someone recognizes a car or it's owner, feel free to chime in or PM me!
Thanks,
Mark Mahy

I remember Tim Kushi driving a Damn Yankee car. That's the inspiration for my old nick,,,,,that and the fact I am one:p

North Port....my ex mother-in-law lives there . I won't be going there anytime soon. LOL.

The last time I saw Jeff Usher race was in 1970 at Connecticut Dragway had a beauiful front engine dragster and was racing the Cody and White AA/FD for the "Connecticut State Championship". The Cody and White team won that day!

BTW, I still live in Connecticut

Thanks for those great pictures!!! I loved it when the cars were named with really fierce names!

That reminds me of "back in the day" when our Dad would gather us around the console record player and he would fire up the "Sounds of Drag Racing" albums!!! We would just sit there amazed at the sounds of the track announcers and the top fuel cars! I guess today we get "Sounds of the Strip" on the ESPN telecasts, but really......there is no comparison to hearing it on a record! My Dad would know who's car was coming up next just by hearing it!

I am going to have to go over to their house and look for those records!!! They were a trip!:D

The link in post #5 shows the track as it exists today, it is ready to rock and roll. CSP may still use it for training on occasion, consumer reports uses it frequently and maintains it very nicely.
Excellent thread. Google Maps at is another shot 41°31'17.23"N 72°21'34.60"W - Google Maps

Going for another thread hijack and a solid whooping from the moderators but what about Dover Dragstrip, any traces of it today? I have a location saying Wingdale NY, route 22 and 21, Pleasant Ridge Road but cannot find anything that looks like remnants. Anyone have more location details?

Dover Dragstrip, I when to the track once in 1971, from what I understand had a large deposit of Peat Mose under it and they removed all traces of the track to get to the Peat Mose.

Anybody out there.... is this true?

I think, National Speedway in Long Island is still intacted, mobile homes are on it?

Long Island. Check out YouTube - Drag Racing On Long Island New York which is simply excellent. 7 minutes of great footage from some New England tracks. Stockers, bikes against cars, Linda V, cacklers, Sox & Martin, Jungle Jim in the early Nova, running four wide at the 6:25 mark, jet against fueler and a load more. "Too much to list"...

Eh, is that snow on the side of the track at 5:50? That's worse than up here.
