The Reed Racing team are returning to their Brisbane base with some solid results after competing in the East Coast Nationals at the Western Sydney International Dragway on the weekend (31st August-1st September).
Driving his Top Alcohol Funny Car in the official launch of the 2006/2007 Australian Drag Racing Championship, team principle Steven Reed suffered some early qualifying difficulties with severe tyre shake as his 3500 horsepower beast overpowered the track.
He still managed to make the highly competitive field in the number 8 position, where he then went on to take out the number 1 qualifier Ben Bray in his quarter-final showdown.
Despite being eliminated in the semi-finals by a mere 8 hundredths of a second, Steven was happy with the teams effort and the platform it has set to build on for the rest of the season in the hunt for the National Championship.
“During initial qualifying we had some difficulty dialling in the cars to the conditions but we still got both of them in the field for the elimination rounds,” Steven Reed said.
“I then had my best run of the weekend in my quarter-final win but completely melted the clutch and it had to be totally replaced before my semi.”
“The crew did a great job getting my car back out there and I only just missed out on going through to Final.”
“It was a pretty good start to the season, both Debbie and I were in the points and we will be able to build from here in the Championship.”
A year on to the day since Steven’s wife Debbie Reed created Drag Racing history by becoming the first ever female to win a professional Top Alcohol round of the Australian Championship, she was back in action again in her Dragster at the Western Sydney International Dragway.
Debbie however also had her share some problems with tyre shake during qualifying as she was looking for the right setup for her new supercharger combination.
She still managed to make it into the number 6 spot but went out in her quarter-final to eventual first time winner Aaron Hambridge, who coincidently was the runner up at the event last year when she won.
“I have a brand new PSI supercharger for my Dragster that we only took delivery of and put on the car on Friday just before qualifying got under way,” Debbie Reed said.
“This is giving me more horsepower and my aim is to consistently be running in the 5 second region (over the quarter mile) as the season goes on.”
“Hopefully I will be able to challenge for another win this year!”
Steven and Debbie Reed will next be taking to the track for the second round of the Australian Top Alcohol Championship and the Australian Nationals at Willowbank Raceway , Queensland from the 14th-16th September.
