SUCCESSFUL WINTERNATIONALS SECURES STEVEN REED 5TH POSITION IN TOP ALCOHOL CHAMPIONSHIP

A near capacity crowd at Willowbank Raceway over the weekend (5th-8th June) for the 41st Winternationals and the finale of the ANDRA Championship Drag Racing series have witnessed what is being described as the most spectacular Australian Drag Racing event in history.

Right up amongst the action in the professional Top Alcohol class was local Queensland based team Reed Racing who had both their 3500 horsepower Funny Car (Steven Reed) and Dragster (Debbie Reed).

Steven was really taking it up to the competition with consistent 5.6 and 5.7 second passes at around 250 mph right throughout qualifying.

With a Quarter-Final match up against the newly crowned Champion Brett Stevens, Steven knew he had to set his beast up with an aggressive tune and the result was a great race as the 2 cars stayed glued together side by side to half track before Brett managed to just pull away in the second half of the race.

“This years Winternationals was undoubtedly the best ever Drag Racing event in Australia with huge crowds and record times right across the weekend,” Steven Reed said.

“It would have been great to go further than the Quarter-Finals in my Funny Car after qualifying well in 5th position, but it was still a very successful weekend with me running in the 5.6 second region and also Debbie (Reed) getting her Dragster back into the 5.7’s.”

“My Funny Car seemed to be down on power a little bit and we think there may be an electrical issue somewhere in the ignition which we are sure to find when we totally strip the cars during the off season.”

The Reed Racing team also finished with both of their two entries inside the top 10 of the Australian Top Alcohol Championship, with Steven Reed securing the number 5 position and Debbie Reed nailing down number 9 despite missing two rounds of the series.

“Finishing the season with both of our Reed Racing cars inside the top 10 in the Australian Championship in what has arguably been the most competitive season in Top Alcohol history really shows our consistency throughout the year,” Steven Reed said.

“The bracket has really come of age and is now one of the leading categories in Australian Drag Racing, so it is a great achievement for the team to gain the result it has with me personally qualifying for every Finals field for the season.”

“Debbie finished a bit further back after missing two rounds following her accident in Sydney , but overall we feel that the Reed Racing team has made some big steps forward and we are really looking forward to be back bigger and better in September when the new season begins.”

“I would again like to thank all of our team sponsors, the crew, the fans and to all those who have helped us throughout the year.”
